“Incredibly unhelpful to foreignors”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

Yes, they'll nod to you when you come in. If thats how you define good service, then go ahead and stay here. However, they will nickle and dime you for absolutely everything and be incredibly unhelpful to their foreign guests. You need translation or help getting around in Korea? Theyll buzz you off and wish you good luck. Overall the hotel is in good shape and fairly new, but the service is not set up to handle international visitors. Additionally, they tend to turn off the AC at night and its quite common to wake up covered in sweat. Oh, and the cleaning ladies will knock on your door 9am on Saturdays...do not disturb on or not.

A week-long business trip to Suwon, Korea provided an opportunity to stay at the Ramada Plaza, said to be the only five-star hotel in town. It certainly is luxurious digs, and with a level or service to match.

Checking in was a piece of cake, as virtually all the hotel staff I encountered spoke flawless English (and were polite enough to correct my feeble attempts at Korean). The main lobby is very elegant and fresh, with the standard bar area and - surprisingly - an adjacent bakery, which offered the most delicious croissants, bagels and rolls.

My standard room would be considered an upgrade anywhere in North America. The king bed was extremely comfortable, the climate control worked flawlessly, WiFi was VERY fast, and the washroom facilities top-notch (including the electric toilet/bidet combo, with heated seat and integral massage function!). Water pressure in the shower was excellent in spite of being on a very high floor.

The view (south) was usually obscured by haze, as my visit coincided with the arrival of summer in Korea, and its saturation humidity. The room was spotless, and kept that way by a highly attentive housekeeping staff.

I took breakfast at the hotel's buffet restaurant (Cheffoo's) and found the selection and quality of food to be excellent, and a very good value for the price. I also took my last-night's dinner at Chefoo's, to enjoy the Thursday night barbecue on the large outdoor terrace. To say the barbecue buffet was good would be a gross disservice - it was absolutely spectacular. No sooner had I selected a bottle of wine when my meal began to arrive - a large serving of chicken, beef, pork and fish, accompanied by crab, shrimp, mussels, mushrooms, onions and a number of local vegetables that I could not identify, but which were superb. Live entertainment consisted of a young Korean couple (he playing an accoustic guitar, she singing and playing keyboards) provided exactly the right hint of atmosphere to make the meal complete. The meal as awesome, and the entertainment only made it that much better.

Finally - I must say a word about the service at this hotel, which was absolutely top-drawer in every way. The staff - from the front desk to the restaurant to housekeeping - could not possibly have been nicer, or made me feel any more welcome. The hotel's management has much to be proud of.

The Ramada Plaza is located a short distance (8 blocks) from the UNESCO World Heritage fortress in Suwon, a very worthwhile visit should time permit.

If I ever have the opportunity to visit Suwon again, I would be delighted to have the opportunity to stay at the Ramada Plaza again. Wonderful hotel in every way.

The limo bus from the airport is really really bad, it took over 3 hours waiting in line to get on in the end, and there is not much option as Suwon City s REALLY FAR. A taxi would be prohibitive. Got to the hotel about 1am. As it turned out, my agent messed up the booking dates and they were expecting me at the hotel the next evening, but it was no fuss, they foound me a room and it was great. Great breakfast, huge choice, HUGE choice. Everything imaginable. The best Ramada I have stayed in. It spoiled us for the rest f the hotels in Korea and Japan.

This is the best Ramada I have ever stayed at/seen. The lobby sets the tone for the hotel as an updated and clean facility. The rooms are spacious and updated with all of the modern ammenities. Complimentary WiFi in the room worked well.
Food was quite good: The buffet breakfast at Chefoo's is great, a great selection of both Western and Asian fare. The lobby Italian restaurant was also pretty good (and I am pretty picky with Italian food). Room service was good and speedy although the housekeeping staff forgot to replace the breakfast order form each day.
Easy to get to from Incheon airport via airport shuttle bus.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are spacious

The Ramada Plaza Suwon is a moden hotel with nice sized rooms. The gym was good as was the breakfast buffet. My only problem (and it is a big one) is that my room was BOILING!. The temperature ranged from 28 - 30 C. I tried everything to cool the room down, thermostat on and turned down to 20C, termostat off, all windows open and eventually had to prop the door open to get some of the cool air from the hallway. I called the front desk to get some relief from the heat but was told that the entire hotel is on one system. When I asked why the hallway was cooler or if every room was at 30C, I was told they could bring me fans. I asked for 2 and have the door proped open. Not the type of service and experience I was expecting from a Ramada. Disappointed (and HOT)!

Excellent hotel with a selection of menu at the buffet. Very accessible from the airport bus. But what makes the hotel extra special are their receptionists. All of the receptionists are very prepared to help out tourists. They have readily available maps, schedule and route of the trains, popular food and resto suggestions, etc. This is very convenient for guests on business who has little time to map out a plan on how enjoy sites in South Korea.
