Subic Waterfront Resort and Hotel
Ranked #8 of 11 Subic B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 22, 2013

Note first: The hotel has NO beach access ! Anyway, the nearby beach was very dirty and not worth to go. The bungalows are ugly from outside, but rooms are spacious. The pool and the pool-bar are the highlights of the resort. The nearby area has a lot of sex-bars, but the resort itself is very quiet and good safety. There is a frequent jeepney service even at late evening to from and to Olangapo city.

I stayed in the Subic Waterfront Resort and Hotel for 3 days in late June. This hotel was formerly named Dreamland Hotel, and has since undergone a (detrimental) change of ownership. Unsure why the name of Subic Waterfront Resort was chosen but this hotel is definately not on the waterfront. The main feature of this resort is the large swimming pool. Given some good marketing and a dedicated attempt to make the resort more inviting for customers, the Subic Waterfront Resort and Hotel could again become a great success. Where there used to be a large bar and restaurant is now an empty room. I stayed in a suite for 1250 peso per night. The room was fine, although the bathroom is very cramped, (the complimentary toiletries are placed on the toilet cistern). The television is of an old type and there is no in-room safe. The website advised a phone is in the room but there is not. In January 2013, there was a hotel fire in Drydens Hotel in Barrio Barretto with 7 fatalities, as a consequence of this fire, I now always check fire exits. In the section of the Subic Waterfront Resort I stayed in, the two exits were "SECURELY LOCKED". As I was on the ground floor with a large window overlooking the swimming pool, I calculated that, in event of a fire or emergency evacuation I would smash the window to flee my room. The resort was not well patronised while I was there, and I am assuming that is the normal state of affairs. I got the impression that this resort with plenty of potential will gradually fall into disrepair as there appears to be no conscious attempt by the owners and management to make the resort an attractive destination for potential customers. Staff were OK, however they appear to have a reluctance to serve customers. I walked into the office when there were four staff in attendance chatting, as I entered, two immediately began focusing on their computer screens, one left the office and the other became highly interested in a sheet of paper. Management and staff have to appreciate that the customer indirectly pays their salaries and an ignored customer will not return and will also advise other travellers to avoid the resort if possible.

Room Tip: Check the fire exits.

We stayed overnight during the Mother’s day and my sister’s birthday. We booked online and our card was charged only 10% and the rest was upon check-in. It took us about an hour to find the hotel but the lady who answered the phone was helpful enough to give us the directions leading to the hotel. The front desk and receptionist were unfocused as we were trying to check in and this is a bit disappointing. The room was not even ready when we arrived by 2pm considering that normal check-in time is at that time (2PM). However, the room attendants/cleaners were helpful enough and prepared our room right away. We took room s8, a 2 bedroom family accommodation. The hotel itself is not that as charming as it seems online but the room quality somehow gave an almost outstanding quality for a B&B/Inn category – the rooms are very spacious (1 king and 1 twin) and it has a kitchenette and a sofa bed in the living room. It also has a 6 seater dining table where your family can dine. The air-conditioning is also good but the washroom is somehow outdated. The beds are okay but the LCD TV in each room has poor TV reception. The adult pool is not as big as expected as to what has been described online. The restaurant offers complimentary breakfast and the TAPSILOG is really good. But take note, though they give free food, the only beverage that comes priceless along with it is just a glass of water. Otherwise, you can ask for a hot water since complimentary 3 in 1 coffee is already available in your room. But overall, the rating is good/standard for an Inn/B&B category of resort hotel.

Subic Waterfront and Hotel is located outside the Subic Freeport and could be found just a few minutes away from it. It is located at Sto. Tomas, Subic, Zambales. It is more than a year old resort and hotel with a two (2) pools, one for adult and one for kids. Their rooms are huge with a good aircondition, refrigerator, hot & cold shower, Cable T.V., closet, telephone and a king-sized bedroom where we stayed for an overnight at room 23 fronting the pool. But if you are looking for a beach: it is not within their premise - other hotels nearby have it. Their rooms are very affordable and indeed a value for money. They have a complimentary breakfast where you could choose from the menu they offered. BTW, if you opted for a "tapsilog" for example, coffee is not included. However, i assure you their breakfast taste good! But they have two (2) complimentary three-in-one coffee in your room, a heater is provided anyway.

The most i like from this hotel is the quiet and serene atmosphere they have. The hotel staff are friendly and accomodating. They offer massage for a fee if one wish to have it. WiFi service inside the room doesn't work unless you go to the reception area and aqua bar poolside. They have a billiard pool at the aqua bar where you could play while waiting for your food along this area.

Come and visit this new hotel while you enjoy and have fun.

Room Tip: Room 23 is a good room!!! Choose this room at the very end of the building. You have a nice view fro...
