The St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral is more than a century old church in front of Plaza Salcedo. You'll be amazed by its facade because of its Chinese lion dog ornaments that testified the strong Chinese heritage before. A belfry tower is located 15 meters away from the church at Burgos Plaza. Don't forget to pay visit at this Cathedral when you are in Vigan.

We stayed for the evening mass here - quiet by chance actually. We jsut heard the church bells ringing in the evening and went in! ANd wow - the insides are well maintained, well painted int eh usual orange, blue and gold colours. The history of the church has been well written at teh entrance on a large plaque - and dates back to more than 300 years old. Most interesting - especially for those who have noticed a "P.Burgos street" in every town in Philippines, Padre Burgos was a priest right here, in this church. It is well used, and has a big organ which they were playing. There are also some old effigies of Mother Mary and saints, but this did not interest me much.
