Villa Angela Heritage House
Ranked #3 of 31 Vigan B&B and Inns
Reviewed November 2, 2012

We've stayed recently for 1 night in cuarto delos hijos.

Here are the good points:
1. Large room (good for 5)
2. Very good parking space (so far the largest I think in the Vigan Heritage Place).
If you have a car, highly recommended.
3. Very friendly and helpful personnel (Maricris and Tony)
4. Rice-fresh and yummy.
5. Not pricey

For improvements:
1. Lightings

Cuarto Delos Hijos has its separate bathroom named "Hijos" and we got confused at first that it was only for the boys and the "Pequenas" was for the girls. We ended sharing comfort rooms with other guests.

They have basic amenities. You will feel the charm of old days with the place and service.
A few steps from Calle Crisologo.

I booked the Cuarto de los Hijos one weekend in July 2012 so my foreign guest could experience the country's Spanish heritage.

We knew what to expect from a house over a hundred years old. Despite its age, it was still grand and charming. It may not be perfectly maintained but you can still feel its once glorious past. Comparing it with modern hotels and their conveniences is a futile attempt.

We arrived at 5:00am, too early for check-in time but the staff welcomed us and made us feel comfortable in the room we booked since it was vacant anyway. We were asked what kind of breakfast we wanted for the next morning - "nothing else but Vigan longganisa", we all exclaimed.

There were four of us in the room, but the space was more than enough. There was one queen bed and two single beds, all four-post carved wood. Each one has a mosquito net neatly hung; it made me realize I haven't seen those since my childhood days. There was no need for them anyway because the room was air-conditioned.

Before bedtime, we were trying to scare each other that ghosts still lingered in the house, but of course there was nothing of that sort. We all had a comfortable sleep.

Villa Angela is a few blocks away from the famous Calle Crisologo if you pass through the house's back door. It is quite a comfortable walk.

As for me, the best thing about staying there is the staffs' friendliness and hospitality. It makes you feel like a relative coming over for a visit, and when it was time to go, you kind of feel sad.

An old heritage home. Everything's antique. Furniture, windows, everything. But well maintained. We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite or whatever it was called. Tom Cruise stayed in the same room and slept in the same bed. Not very exciting for me but thought I'd mention it anyway. Great breakfast of Vigan longganisa. Beautiful place to stay. It's almost like traveling back in time and catching a glimpse of what life may have been like in those days. We were free to take pictures anywhere in the house and grounds. Sat in the antique furniture too. I highly recommend this place to those who love nostalgia.

Those staying at Villa Angela need to know before booking that is a very basic place to stay. I feel that the information in our guidebook (and on this website) was somewhat misleading. We were expecting something a lot grander. The room and facilities were very basic. Paper-thin walls means that if you have noisy neighbours you can count on a poor night’s sleep. The only real positive is that the staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, it’s a place that I wouldn’t return to or recommend to family and friends.

Being a heritage house, expected that the house is old.. On our first night, i had difficulty of sleeping because I felt that someone is sneaking. At that time we are the only guest, so the house is in peace. But overall, our stay is fine, the host ate maricris is super accomodating and hospitable.

We stayed at the Cuarto de las Hijas. Booking was easy, with the confirmation coming rather quickly. Maricris met us as we arrived, and was very friendly and helpful. The room was as it promised to be - a trip back in time. Maricris told us that the Villa wasn't really a hotel as it was our house in Vigan. Her demeanor really gave our Vigan trip a good start. She even gave my wife a free taste of Vigan longganisa after my wife told her that Vigan longganisa was sour (apparently someone gave her a bad longganisa at one time).

The bathroom was a revelation as it is modernized (with a glass-encased shower stall) and clean, except that the toilet plunger kept malfunctioning. I had to fix it myself (hey, it was my Vigan home, remember). Breakfast wasn't served restaurant style - it was served home style! The rice, longganisa, and other stuff were placed in separate plates/saucers. With tomatoes to boot!

The place just needs to be rid of cobwebs and dust on top of shelves. Otherwise, it's a great place to stay for those who want the experience of having to stay in an authentic heritage house that was build sometime in 1870. The staff is tops!

Special mention goes to Carlito the super-kutsero! He's a kalesa driver who knows his Vigan routes and history, is very helpful and friendly with matching stories. He really made our kalesa tour so enjoyable that I didn't mind that the tour stretched to three hours from the original two that we planned on. I didn't mind giving him a good tip after his spirited tour. We even miss his horse Guerrera. So, if you're in Vigan, look of Carlito, kalesa number 172, and his horse Guerrera!

Room Tip: Cuarto de las Hijas is good for five persons.

We stayed at Cuarto de las Hijas and the room was so cozy for a group of four. We loved the ambience so much. The staffs were warm - Ate Maricris and Kuya Tony made sure that we were comfortably settled. The breakfast was special (served with TLC, of course). Kuya Tony even escorted out to the bus terminal set to Pagudpud to make sure we're good (and made a side tour to the town plaza where we can buy pasalubongs..). Thanks, Ninay for a good start..thanks Ate Maricris and Kuya Tony! =)

There are four family rooms, equipped with airconditioning, cable TV, large four-poster colonial beds, and T/B. On the lower floor, what were once storage areas for the family's farm produce of rice, corn, maguey, and tobacco have been converted into two cozy dormitory-style rooms which can accommodate larger groups, between 10-12 people each, equipped with airconditioning, cable TV, and toilet/shower facilities.
