its an excellent place with the peaceful environment. i just don't have perfect word to express the place. it is not for the people who is looking for the adventure or old historical architecture or monuments. here you could feel the peace inside you. you could observe the religious Buddhist monks chanting the prayer, different monks from all over the world, Prayer flag and peaceful corner to see and observe the Buddhist way of doing prayers etc. overall eternal peace.

A simple structure over the Buddha's birthplace. The temple is next to the famous pool and Ashokan Pillar and sits in substantial and well kept gardens. Whether you wish to find a quiet corner and meditate (watch out for the giant ants), walk round the pool chanting with other pilgrims or just sit and take in the sights and sounds, this is a must see. Worth the small entrance fee.

Terribly boring place. Of course, not boring for Buddhists. For people who are not Buddhists, there is nothing to see or feel. The stone of the EXACT birthplace of Buddha! Haha. How can anyone know a thing like that during Ashoka's time??? Three centuries after the fact, when there was no computerised system to keep track. Does anyone know the exact birthplace of Napoleon? Goerge Washington?

We only planned to visit the birthplace of lord Buddha, lumbini but we enjoy visiting the maya devi temple. The temple stands adjacent to a sacred pool and a sacred garden. There is a big pipal tree around the temple. It is said that lord Buddha was born under the shade of that tree. the temple was established in the name of the lord Buddha's mother name called maya devi.We were pleased to visit the temple. that visit is most memorable visit in my life.

Understandably tourism is a source of income, though it felt a bit like the mass of tourists were not complementing the practicing visitors on pilgrimage
