“Excellent handicraft palace”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

Bhaktapur Durbar square is a set of palace used by the malla kings during the 70s before Nepal was unified. It has got plenty of amazing and beautifully designed handcrafted palaces. It has got one famous palace called 55 window palace which has 55 windows with different designs on the wood. It lies near to Kathmandu in the east side. It is a beautiful place for sight seeing along with Patan Durbar square.

“A peaceful and quiet Durbar Square”
Reviewed May 8, 2014

If you are looking to find yourself within Durbar Square of Nepal, go to Bhaktapur. It has a peaceful and quiet situation. If you are looking to take picture of the building, Bhaktapur durbar square is the place. I visited this place around 10am, yet it is still quiet. A contrast if you compare with Kathmandu durbar square.

Make sure you allocate enough time. Because in this place, you can easily dragged into its slow and peaceful pace.

“Worth the trip”
Reviewed May 4, 2014 via mobile

Drove by taxi (25$) and got a guide (5$) for 2-3 hour tour of these great ancient structures which have been restored well when needed.

Much better than similar in Kathmandu and if u go early very peaceful. Worth your admission price to maintain

“A conglomeration of stone art, metal art, wood carving, terracotta art, and architectural showpieces”
Reviewed April 30, 2014

Bhaktapur is a living museum. Everywhere one is surrounded by buildings that jump straight out of the pages of history books and invite one to go back through the centuries. Buildings upon buildings, streets upon streets, the imagination is put into sensory overload. This fabulous city displays its' centuries-old art and architectural and cultural heritage whilst, at the same time, it offers a wonderful range of delicious Newari cuisines, excellent accommodations, and interesting handicrafts. In other words, it offers something for everyone, and is well worth the 1,500 rupees entrance fee. The site was extensively destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1934 and, if this is what is costs to restore it back to its' former glory, then it is a small price to pay.

“Worth spending a day in Bhaktapur (but avoid Bungamati and Khokana)”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

We visited Bhaktapur on a half-day trip from Kathmandu. It is an interesting city and worthy of a whole day visit. We saw the principal sights in the city but it was all rather rushed ... there is plenty to see here.

Don't bother visiting Bungamati and Khokana (they are usually linked-in with a visit to Bhaktapur). The relatively few residents of Bungamati and Khokana see thousands of tourists as they troop through their town and are clearly fed-up with the sight of them.
