“Bhaktapur w/ Himalayan Quests..Awesome!”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Had a guided tour of Bhaktapur through Himalayan Quest and it was perfect! Ram the guide was soon to become an added family member. He was beyond friendly, informative and accomodating. The tour not only included viewing the main temples in Durbar Square, but also walks through tiny alley ways that led to cozy plazas where tasty treats abound. Make sure you try the famous Bhaktapur curd! Ram was full of history and funny interesting anecdotes regarding the ancient temples, the local artisans (beautiful ceramic, paper and wood works) and festivals. Although Bhaktapur covers a small area, it's filled with beautiful sites, excellent food and warm inviting people.

We visited after Durbar squares in Kathmandu and Patan at last Durbar Square in Bhaktapur. We were glad we did so. Bhaktapur Durbar Square and THE other squares we found THE most impressing.

“Explore something different everytime”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

Make some local young friends and you will explore Bhaktapur in a different way. The real picture of this city is much more mesmerizing that portrayed by authorities. The inner alleys, local food joints and daily life style are major points of attraction for me. Regular spots like Durbar square, Datatrya temple and Siddhapokari and explained by everyone but at least live in this city for two days in local guest house to explore a lot. Wake up in early morning, walk around local water sources where you will find women queuing for water. Witness early activities in temples, vegetable vendors, school kids, tea shops and many more. Live in this city to love it. It gives you more every time.

“Old town”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Slightly out of town but about a 1/2 hr taxi trip from Shanker hotel. About$18 entry fee but money goes to the ongoing renovation and maintenance of town. Beautiful old town, well restored ,clean lots of markets and local community

“A not-to-miss square”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

late Feb-Mar 2013

It was a wonderful visit and a walk around the square area, into local lanes with our guide as he explained the history and meaning and the local prices as we asked, certainly amazing. It appeared that around, we are not much different from one another even if the outward appearance seem to. Food and clothing prices are rising.

The sellers are far less annoying than those in Delhi attractions/monuments. Would highly recommended the beads necklace in Patan Durbar Square - made to order, takes about 15 minutes for 2 sets, range from NPR300+, for short with about 7 strings.

You'll need interpreter as most shop keepers do not speak English, it seems. If you are allergy to dust, have a mask handy and lots of wet tissue, better still hand-gel. Toilet is not readily available every where so check-in with your guide well-ahead, if you have to. Having toilet paper with you will be very handy, most of the time.

We had our meals in a restaurant roof floor near Patan Square, tasty and not too pricey with great view.
