“Basic, but located right in the ancient center”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

The name Guest House says it all. So please expect a basic and poorly lit room, hot water if you are lucky, noise from the surrounding streets, etc. BUT ... the hotel is right in the center of ancient Bhaktapur and the rooftop terrace offers excellent views. Ask the staff if they can serve your breakfast on the rooftop terrace and see Bhaktapur's daily life slowly starting up. Priceless!

We were advised to stay here by the guard at the gate and the taxi driver - i have no idea why. Considering we were travelling out of season and the hotel was virtually empty - room was typical 70's style Nepal which I was used to by this stage but the cold water tap not connected therefore couldn't shower. it was dirty and the food was terrible, day staff were not friendly either which is unusual for Nepal. Luckily found a much better hotel within the Square and had a great time.

FIrst of all, the hotel is not in Kathmandu but in Bhaktapur (please change Mr Tripadvisor).

We looked at 6 hotels before choosing this one, not because the room was great but because the other options were even less value for money or looked nastier. The public areas of Bhadgaon and the facade are attractive but the room very dark, dingy and dirty (we were on the same level as the roof terrace).

The best we could beat them down to was $35 incl. tax & breakfast (by far the worst breakfast in 3 weeks in Nepal - we sent the coffee back both mornings to get them to add some coffee to it). There was never any electricity to work the tiny heater (power cuts are not their fault although they could afford a better generator at the price they charge). There was never any hot water during the 2 nights we stayed. Spectacularly noisy from 3am when the locals start ringing the prayer bell in the square opposite. Restaurant staff relatively unsmiling compared to the normal Nepalese level of service. We saw them cleaning the room with all the bed linen thrown on the dirty floor ready to be put back on the bed. The toilet would not flush properly. Do you need any other reasons not to stay here?

Great location for a trip to Bhaktapur, but don't forget your earplugs! The Nepali are up and about their business very early. Rooms are basic, but comfortable and pretty clean.
Breakfast is a simple buffet, the restaurant serves really nice local dishes. I'd stay here again.

My husband and I stayed at the Bhadgaon Guest House for five nights in March, 2011. We had reserved the top floor room, which we thought was wonderful! We had our own balcony with a table and chairs, and also steps up to the top roof deck with even better views. The room was clean and comfortable with two double beds and plenty of room for our packs. We had hot water all the time. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It is noisy--dogs barking all night long, bells and chanting from the temple, vendors setting up on the streets very early in the morning--but that didn't bother us. We kind of liked it! The food was very good, and we could get internet down in the lobby as long as there was power (intermittent in most of Nepal). The top floor room is the best, but it is a lot of steps if you are not into climbing (which we are!) We loved being right in the heart of Bhaktapur, but if you are looking for quiet, I would choose the Bhaktapur Guest House. We would definitely come back to the Bhadgaon ourselves.

we stayed there for 1 night befor we left nepal, that is a 10 days trip. so at that time, we already knew what a guest house should be in nepal. i booked 3 double room for us, 5 adults. fortunately, i booked 3 double room. one of those room is so small, which can only accommodate one person. i can't imagine how small a single room will be.
the rate of the room include the breakfast which is buffet. the breakfast is no bad, but the flyes are very annoying.
the guest house is at a very good location, center of the ancient town, arround by temples. but the nepalese really like ring the temple bells when they pass though the temple. no matter what time it is. so maybe you will be waked up at 23:00/24:00/1:00/2:00...
but, what i just said, is the things you have to suffer if you want to travel in nepal. so the bhadgaon guest house can be considered as an good hotel in nepal, especially in bhadgaon.

We stayed at this guest house for 1 night and this is the darkest night we ever had in our whole life. A thief climbed up to the window and grab our bag while we were sleeping! We only realized the next morning when the security guard found our bag at the entrance of the guest house.

We lost a newly bought Canon DSLR camera, a decent camera lens, hundreds of dollars worth of different currencies, and a cellphone.

Our passports, credit cards and flight ticket are in the bag but they didn't take it, it seemed that the thief want us to leave the country in peace! The guy who found the bag even told me not to worry as i can claim the losses from my insurance company, funny! In fact, i can't claim a cent from this incident.

Police are helpful enough but i doubt they will manage to find the thief.

Until now, we are not sure who is the thief. I have a feeling it is a insider job, because we are the only guest that night! They can easily climb out from the room next to us and take our stuff.

P/S: This review might not be fair to the guest house, but I would like to post it as a precaution for everyone who travel to Nepal. Always lock your windows from inside and never leave your bags near the window. We learned our lesson here and hope no one will be the next victim.
