“A Family owned hotel in Nepal beyond Imagination and Extraordinary decore”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

First of all we would like to express our deep gratitude towards employee and owner of Hotel Heritage.

The Heritage hotel in Bhaktapur is an authentic experience of Nepal’s ancient cultural heritage.

Hotel’s room was amazing with affordable price. The restaurant and bars provides range culinary and beverages with very warm and personalized service.

We would definitely like to recommend this hotel for those who is looking for more pleasant stay and relaxing dining experience.

It seems, Heritage hotel is majestic focal of Bhaktapur. The hotel’s interior and exterior has captured the Bhaktapur’s heritage imagination with magnificent scale and ingenuity.

From the moment of our arrival, we were immersed in a dazzling world of imagination, pleasure and ancient luxury.

Hoping to be there soon again!!!!!!!

Hotel Heritage was a real pleasure to stay at after a long trek. We were amazed at the style and standard of all the traditional decor - this really is the most beautifully presented hotel. The room was large and very comfortable, with satellite TV and a beautiful bathroom (much appreciated after 10 days trekking). It is obviously a very new hotel with only a few names in the guest book when we stayed, but all rated very highly. Our only issue was the lack of staff in the restaurant. Both days we waited over an hour for breakfast and both days the orders were wrong, despite there only being three different breakfast options on the menu. Also, it seemed odd that they would bring each item of a breakfast out separately on different plates, with long gaps between. It seemed that only one person was taking orders, cooking and bringing the items out. However the food was lovely when it did arrive but we did not eat in the evening here due to the breakfast experiences.

Judging by the other reviews, the service issue may have been improved and I really hope so because this hotel is beautiful and really deserves to be successful. Bhaktapur is a nice place to relax after a trek or before a trek as it is a much more peaceful version of Kathmandu. However, there is not a huge amount to do and 2 days is plenty. Certainly make sure you do also stay in Kathmandu on a visit to Nepal as the city is an amazing experience.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 days because we returned two days early from our Everest Base Camp trek. Prior to that we stayed at Hyatt Kathmandu. Comparing the two, I must say that if you don't care about having a pool and don't mind power shortages time to time (as Alec said in previous review - hardly noticeable) both hotels offer equally clean and comfortable rooms. However, service in the Heritage is much nicer and more personalized; location is great (near center of the town) and away from crazy and polluted Kathmandu. And, unlike Hyatt, Heritage had free wi-fi. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would come back and stay there again. In addition, food at the restaurant was exceptional! And so fairly priced. We wish we could eat more :) We had a wonderful and restful stay after our trek.

I will update this review shortly with photos.

Arrived prior to trekking as it was the preferred destination leading up to the journey. Also came back to stay after illness forced an early end to our trek.

Guests are greeting with the burning of good Nepali incense and a comfortable, earthy, and inviting lobby in which to unwind with coffee or tea after a long, transcontinental journey.

Very traditional Nepali style hotel very well appointed and very stylish decor. Furniture is made from very old and heavy wood recycled from older structures of up to 300 years old. Masonry was carefully applied and also representative of old world Nepali culture. So detailed are the touches on this property, that they have ancient rice-milling implements on the front porch with which they actually make rice-flour for the kitchen in the morning. For a taste of home, there is cable TV with 81 channels from numerous countries, and adequate power outlets for charging -- but bring your own AC adapters. Only caveat here is that all of Nepal is subject to blackout (load shedding as it is officially referred), but it seems that the Heritage has the capability to provide quite a bit of power on its own, and the outages when we were there didn't seem terribly oppressive or inconvenient.

Owner was originally going to open a textile factory but conditions forced a move to building a hotel on the site instead, and it was a real win for the hospitality industry in the Kathmandu Valley, and hopefully for the owner.

Housekeeping staff and waitstaff in the restaurant was friendly and attentive. The bell captain and front desk clerk went out of their way to please.

Restaurant serves great local Nepali fare, and other pan-Asian food that is tasty and very intriguing. Cold Everest beer is available as are sodas and fresh lemon soda water in case your stomach needs a boost from getting used to in-country conditions.

Finally, the location is very convenient to the UNESCO Heritage site of old Bhaktapur and all its amazing culture, religious, and political history.

Sleep quality got one star off due to proximity to a somewhat noisy location, but be assured that this hotel is very well staffed, appointed, comfortable, and gorgeous.
