When you like to try different lao food and on the restaurants card you cant imagine, how it could look like, then its the best to visit the night market. i think all local food you could choose in the restaurants (of namtha) card you can taste here. theres a good selection. grab you meal and eat it all together on one of the public tables. now enjoy beeing among locals :)

“Wonderful Selection of Authentic Local Cuisine”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Sitting at home back in the States, I often dream of the Luang Namtha Night Market and all the terrific local dishes that I'll never be able to replicate in my own kitchen since I can't source the local herbs, spices and veggies. When you enter the market, there's a large array of established stalls in front along with long tables in back where local women bring their specialty dishes. A good idea to try dishes from both areas and my thought is that the most authentic stuff is in the back. I also loved the stalls up front selling pork belly, duck and chicken spit roasted. My tip is to simply wander about and try things that look interesting. $5 will get you a beer and a belly full of half a dozen dishes and desserts. You can certainly eat for a lot less if on a budget. And don't worry about getting sick eating street food. I ate there five times, tried at least 20 different dishes and had no problems. Nor did I hear of anyone else getting sick. Must dishes would be the pork belly, sticky rice, an assortment of jaews, larb (pork, duck, chicken), local veggies that you won't find elsewhere, rattan soup, and various coconut and banana based desserts. For an equally adventurous meal in a fancier setting, try the Minority Restaurant across the street, though it will cost you more for the nicer atmosphere.

“Average food quality, but that's anyway what you'll get in the restaurants too”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

This is actually a great place to sit, relax, and have a meal the way the Lao do. The food quality isn't great, but it's fresh, and anyway what you'll get in a restaurant will taste similar.

This Night Market is small and not very interesting, but they sell a big choice of very good food.
We loved the fresh made Papaya salad.
