“Super relaxing time, stay on Don Khone!”
Reviewed March 5, 2012

I came here thinking I wanted to leave immediately, but there's something about this place that kept us there for a week. After one night on Don Det, we went to Don Khone and stayed at a simple bungalow. We spent our days hiking in the morning or evening (too hot midday!), eating, playing cards on our deck overlooking the river, swimming and sipping beers.

You may want to bring snacks like nuts, hard candies, etc. because there aren't many options on Don Khone. But make sure to hang them in your room as ants will find them in no time.

One complaint--the "bridge fee" they are charging if you even want to walk past the bridge and not to the waterfall. I'd try to fight it if you're staying on Don Khone. To me, it's ridiculous that they make you pay even if you just want to go under the bridge to the other side of the main drag. However, it's free after 5pm.

“Great place to relax and so cheap!”
Reviewed December 4, 2011

We stayed 4 days on Don Det and could have stayed more. Life is really slow here, hardly any traffic and you can spend your days biking around the islands or just relaxing in a hammock. Accomodation is really cheap: you can get a basic bungalow for 20 000kip with shared bathroom, and 40 000 for a nicer bungalow with bathroom.
There are plenty of restaurants that do decent food.

It could be the ultimate backpacker dream destination... if it was next to the sea instead of the muddy Mekong river...
