“Sangetha Mahal at Thanjavur”
Review of Sangeetha Mahal

Sangeetha Mahal
Ranked #29 of 53 things to do in Thanjavur
Attraction details
Reviewed April 7, 2013

It was built by Marathaas during the 18th century. adjacent to the royal Palace. It can accommodate 1000. The performance site and the audience site are well below the ground level. In all seasons the entire hall will be humid.. It has been so constructed that the ordinary common citizens were used to view in the ground floor and the royal people in the upstairs through the huge windows. i.e. the audience and the performers cannot see the royal entourage whereas the reversal can occur. Gone are those days when the music concerts were conducted without any modern electronic appliances like mike, radios, recorders. amplifiers etc., and accordingly it was designed. Now acoustics of that hall has to be maintained correctly. Very huge stage where Dance, music performances can be conducted even now with the due permission from the district administration..Maintenance of this huge hall is far from satisfactory. Nothing to be mentioned except with its huge square pillars...
