“central, well run, good value”

This was by far the best of the 6 business class hotels we stayed at in Tamil Nadu. Efficient staff, excellent levels of cleanliness, vey good restaurant and central location. It's not a luxury stay, but it's hard to fault for what it is.

for the price the hotel is a good stay and it is a shame that the staff cannot be more proactive.
we arrived at 4pm after a 6 hr drive and our room was not ready. beds not made ,bathrom not cleaned. all eventually solved but the unpleasantness could have been avoided if the reception had informed the housekeeping staff that the room was vacant

This hotel is very clean and the staff is quite professional. The bed was comfortable and not too hard, as is often the case. Everything worked! My only complaint was the comforter on the bed was too warm and we had to keep the A/C on just to be able to sleep! The restaurant is very good and the location is central to the main sights.

For a small town like thanjavur, it is a pretty comfortable and decent place to stay with a good restaurant. The travel desk can however improve a lot and even if no staff is available to man the counter the whole time, some pamphlets, phone numbers, and information on places to be visited around can be kept.

Booked this hotel by phone while in India, and it turned out to be one of the best ones we stayed in during our trip.
For 1400rs we had a large double room, with a clean bathroom (although the shower head sprayed water everywhere except down!), TV, wardrobe, table and chairs, fan and a/c. Towels and toilet paper provided, plus toiletries like toothbrush, shampoo, etc.
Although it was on the front of the hotel we didn't find the road noise that bad.
Room service was great, and not that expensive. It was from the restaurant downstairs, with a great thali for 70rs that had so much food. Cold beer was also a bonus and was 120rs. The staff were very friendly, particularly the man who had to keep bringing our food to our room!
The location is great, close to the station, palace, museum, temple and markets, and easy for the rickshaw drivers to find.
We had 2 relaxing nights here and thought it was excellent value for money, with one of the cleanest rooms we had stayed in.

I walked into the empty lobby of the Gnanam in early evening after a long hot journey. The receptionist smiled briefly and then immediately disappeared through a door at the back of reception. Not a good start, I thought, especially when she appeared to have nothing else to attend to.

But things looked up when she reappeared moments later clutching a tin full of sparkling white wet flannels kept in the fridge behind reception and offered me one, swiftly followed by ‘would you like another?’.

That start really summed this hotel up. The public areas were immaculate, rooms were well kept and clean, with more ‘décor’ in the way of pictures and paint detail than you’d usually see in a mid-range hotel. Air con worked well. Try to get a room at the back – the hotel is on a noisy road and our room was of the ‘need earplugs’ variety.

The hotel was generally busy, with what looked like local businessmen and groups of friends using its two (veg and non-veg) restaurant/bars. The menu was varied, the food excellent, and the value good.

And they had the only femaie bell hop I’ve ever seen in India. She stood about 4’9” tall but literally fought my husband (with a big smile on her face) over who carried our large bag!

Location is within walking distance of the temple and the town centre.

We thought the hotel was excellent value, with good rooms and good service – we had not expected to find this quality at this price in a temple town.
