Located in a small town of Konark in Odisha which is approximately 65 Km from Bhubaneshwar and approximately 35 km from Puri.

The magnificent Temple was built in 13th century. It is in a shape of a chariot with 7 horses and 24 wheels.
The body of the temple is decorated heavily with minutely designed stone carvings.

The temple is about 4 Km away from Chandrabhaga beach.

This is a must visit for anyone visiting Odisha and for those who are interested in architecture.

I visited konark sun temple in Novenber, there was an average crowd there. we took a Guide there, by going some bargains and all, we gave him Rs 120 which is worth it.
the places has very deep meaning inside it, some of the stories are overwhelming and there is also a temple of Chaya Devi in one corner of the ground, She is mythological mother of Shani Dev and second life of Surya Dev!!
want to mention , many few people know about that

it cause goosebumps after listening to the story of the the temple and by seeing partially damaged statues!! that how Britishers want to destruct the glory of India!!

Must go!!

The Sun Temple is spectacular. A trip to Orissa is wasted if you don't see this.

It's worth hiring an official government guide to explain everything, as the history is quite confusing. The guides are expensive (Rs 700 for 2 hours!) but it won't make a lot of sense without them. Make sure their name badge matches the names of approved guides on the display board beside the main entrance, otherwise you're probably getting an imposter.

You'll have plenty of time to explore after the tour is over. Toilets could to with being cleaned more often, but apart from that it's quite well managed.

Architecture never got better.Konark stands in testimony to everything that aesthetics have been over centuries.800 years and vagaries of nature have taken a huge toll on this magnificent marvel of art,and the restoration work is doing the rest of the damage. The ornate exterior is being redone in places with bare rock that doesnt even blend well with the rest of the structure. The main temple has been lost, luckily the artifacts are preserved in the museum nearby. The natmandap and jagmohan and a few temples that have survived the natural and man-made assault are sheer magic-poetry in rock. The pillars in the dancing hall are symmetrical and heavily decorated with dancing figures that seem to be just waiting to come to life. The Jagmohan known for the chariot wheels has much more art to offer. It celebrates the sacred feminine in ways more than one. The panels on the walls will make your jaw drop, the animal figures are lifelike, the energy of the elephants, horses, leogryphs and crocodiles is palpable. Their are explicitly graphic figurines too, many of them would make the ones in Khajuraho blush(YES!!!)The interiors were shut more than a 100 years back by orders of the governor of Bengal to preserve the unique architecture.God bless his soul and God bless UNESCO, subsequent governments would have ensured this glorious monument to vanish from the face of the earth.Tip:carry sunglasses.

Visited this attraction after many years. Felt it more organised. The free entry below 18 yrs is really a good move that I liked. The landscaping is excellent.
