The quality of the rooms and of the restaurant is very good. The reception can handle English and the restaurant has an English menu. There is no western breakfast, however. The hotel is on a very nice location, although the road nearby makes some noise. It is inside the park and It is close to a bus stop, but the buses in the park have no fixed routes. So you have to negotiate with the coordinator at the stop and she does not speak English. There is also no english map with bus stops, so you are advised (forced) to take a guide.
No restaurants, shops or anything else around the hotel. The rooms are on various levels, so there are some steps to be taken sometimes. The show on the opposite bank of the hotel is very good.
It remains a typical chinese hotel though: hard beds, very limited terrace, no bar or swimming pool.

I was very disappointed with the roomservice. Available only on limited time ! very weird..!

When I ordered the breakfast to be delivered to the room.. they told me there was no breakfast service to the room. But I told me there is no room service for breakfast. But I told her it is shown in the hotel room service menu. She said she will call back

When she call back after 5 minutes, she told me that only bread with butter and jam will be served, I told them the room service menu show that full set of breakfast include bacon and omellete and coffee. She said she will call back.

When she call back 10 minutes later, she said there there will be a room service charge of 35 renmin pi

I was so frustrated with the level of room service and told her forget about it..!!

This is the level of service you would expect in a 4 star hotel !!

Wuyi Palace could be a great place: the location is nice, the rooms are clean and comfortable, if you book into a suite with balcony you can enjoy the cooling evening...
but: if you want to drink a beer, you better buy it at the supermarket - the roomservice is unable to deliver. There is no open air terrace to dine or have a drink (except a tea-house) - so dont expect to hang out at the hotel in the evening. Roomservice is only avaiable at certain hours, dont ask for continental breakfast to the room - they dont have, even so it is listed in their brochure. You only get breakfast in a huge banquet hall at the other end of the hotel property, loud, smelly and uncomfortable. 4-star rating is only the price, the rest is pretending... Positive was only the service at the front-desk: booking a flight to Xiamen was straight forward.

We stayed here in low season, after moving in desperation from another hotel which was basically closed for refurbishment but accepted our booking anyway.

The contrast was immense - the setting and design of this place is extremely impressive, rooms are large and relatively modern, breakfast is reasonably good and other meals ranged from alright to excellent (albeit with a high degree of variability in food and service quality - but hey, this is China!) Food isn't expensive either.

The location was perfect for us, right by the mountains and easy to get a taxi to to all the places we wanted to go. True, it's not near any shops and restaurants - but there aren't really any worth going to in any case; you come here for the scenery.

Heartily recommended to anyone!

Great location and very relaxing hotel property. This is excellent for family visits and getaways. I would love to come back with a few books to read and relax.

I decided to stay at this hotel after reading such a rave review on this hotel. Since my travel plan was not concrete, rather than booking the hotel through the internet, I called and reserve a room a day prior to my arrival. Booking on the phone there, compare to the internet has about $20 difference a night. Thinking that I am getting a good deal, I was excited to stay there.

When I arrived, I was going in circle trying to find out which building is my room in. We were given the "SUITE" one of the most expensive room according to the hotel management there. The room was located on the 4th floor with NO elevator and no helper to carry your bags for you. My poor parents who are approaching 80s had to climb up and down. When I requested for another room, it was refused.

The room was in the most deteriorated condition. The walls are peeling, the bathroom leaks and when you turned on the water, muddy water gushed out. The towels provided were thin and yellowish in color.

The main dining hall where breakfast was provided looked real grand but when we went to the bathroom, there was a 10 inch millipede crawling around.

We booked a tour guide from the hotel and when she told us that we had stayed at one of the grandest hotel in town, we complained about the condition. She finally revealed to us that the hotel segregated those who booked from overseas via the one book internally. She took us to another building and even though it was only 3 stories high, there were elevators and plush carpet.

My final word of wisdom if you really want to stay in this hotel, book it through high exposed western website and you better showed up looking like a white guy in order to get a better room !
