“Good location, clean and worth the price”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

This is the first time I have been to Wuyi Mountain. I would say this place is seperated into 3 areas
1) The attractions : This area and this is where all the mountains, rivers and local attractions. This area is closed at certain times as it is a labelled as a protected area
2) The attraction district : This is where tourist normally stay as it is nearer to the tourist attractions
3) The local town : This is where the local people stays, shop, eat etc. This is about 16km from the attraction district.

This hotel is in the attraction district. Walking distance to some of the local attractions in the attraction area but far from the local town.
In this attraction district, you will see mainly shops selling tea. At least 7 of 10 shops sells the local tea around here.

There is a bus stop in front of the hotel which you can take a local bus to the attractions or town and there is a ticket office directly behind the hotel for you to purchase the attraction tickets.
The prices of the tickets are the same everywhere unless you get the ticket from your local tour guide which might get a slightly cheaper discount. (Maybe about 50yuan off the actual ticket price)

A supermarket to the left of the hotel and a smaller convenient stall to the right of the hotel(if you exit from the back gate, if not, then it is all to the left.)
A local telcom company and a bank is to the right if you need an ATM.

To the right, there is a KFC, to the right, there is another fast food place.

At night, there is plently of food stalls to the back of the hotel if you like BBQ food. They have BBQ fish, meat, veg or fried dishes. Prices are reasonable, but you might want to check the price with them before confirming your order.

In the local town, there is some local street stalls, some clothes stalls, fast food, supermarket etc. Food is cheaper and you can get more variety here.

Taxi will cost 40yuan to the hotel. (Regardless coming or going). You can take the bus if you want, but it will take about 45 to an hour to reach the ciry from this hotel.

You can also walk to the local attraction - Yin Xiang Da Hong Pao from here. It is about 10 mins walk and along the way, there is some outdoor park with some figures which you can take a look at.

The breakfast is not too good, nothing much to chose from but it was acceptable. Coffee is 3 in 1 packs given there and hot water is from a flask so it is not piping hot.(This is very disappointing for someone who needs a cup of coffee in the morning).

When I was there the whole time, there was nobody in the resturant. I had to even take my own utensils.

Overall, hotel location is good, rooms are clean and nice. I loved the bed, it was very comfortable. Towels and amenities are available. It was worth the price.

Firstly this hotel is inexpensive to many hotels around it and would rival any 5 star accommodation I have been to. Don't be fooled by some photos, it is CLEAN, the room has all the trappings of a Western Hotel and the bed is perfect.

The biggest benefit is it's location. It is at the Southern Gate to Wuyishan National Park. This is where you need to be visiting this place. Look for my review on this area to see what a wonderful place in China it is.

The only downside is breakfast. But all we did was invent our own breakfast as they will cook you eggs how you want them and there is toast and a weird jam that I could only compare to honey.

Oh I forgot to mention that the staff's English is poor too. Fortunately I am married to a Chinese woman which makes it less difficult for me. The kitchen is close to the dining room, so in off peak just go and show them what to do. Or use some hand gestures to get your message across.

We went Off Peak so I am sure it would be different if it is Peak Time. (I would avoid Peak Times to this area though!)

The room we had was extremely modern. ASK FOR ROOM 8310. It is luxurious and has modern facilities. The toilet is a little high for Chinese people and I am sue they would dangle their legs from it like sitting on a tree branch, but Westerners will be comfortable. Shower is glass and you will need to wait for a little while to have a really hot shower.

The bed is fantastic. OMG the beds in China are all hard but this room has the perfect bed. Their is a turn down service and all lights and TV can be operated from the bed.

There isn't a view from this hotel but a short walk to the bridge will give you some breathtaking views of the mountains and the city from the bridge. Tea plantations are across the bridge.

Supermarket (the only one) is about a 5 minute walk. It's on the road that the bridge is on. Out the front door and gate to the main street, turn right and go around the corner and onto the road that has the bridge across the river on. Before you come to the second lane (bank is on this corner) cross the road to the opposite side and then you will see the supermarket. A little hidden by posters on the window.

Restaurants are out the back door. Exiting the hotel turn left walk down the street and you will see some pop tents. I would avoid those little restaurants but keep walking around to the street turning left. (second street that links to the bank on the corner mentioned above). 3 shops on the left before the bank is a noodle shop. Chow La Mien is Beef noodles. (Ju) La Mien is Beef Noodle Soup.

To get to the mountains and the South Gate walk out the main entrance to the hotel and you will see a bus stop. Take bus No. 6 until the route finishes in a semi circle. Get off and walk down the steps to find the ticket office. I strongly suggest look at my review on Wuyishan as I have detailed all the main attractions.

Good luck and enjoy!

Room Tip: Choose Room 8310. See my photos!
