Take your time to enjoy this trip round and also call in at Pilgrims rest and mac mac pools (as well as mac mac falls). A whole day needed for this to appreciate it all

The Panorama route is perhaps one of the most underrated tourist activities on the planet. Firstly, the views are indescribably spectacular. Anyone looking for an impressive FB profile picture need look no further! There's also no chance that you'll fall off any of the immense cliffs as there are protective railings at each site. The road which takes one from Graskop towards Ohrigstad is excellent; wide, incredibly well tarred and maintained. It's also not especially heavily trafficked so driving is an absolute pleasure. We stopped at various lookout points including Wonder View, The Pinnacle, Word's End, The Three Rondavels and Lowveld View. Each view was worth stopping for! There are a number of remarkable things about the landscape: i) the Blyde RIver Canyon which you look down onto from the Panorama Route is the World's largest green canyon; and a deep green canyon of this scale is truly something to behold; ii) the geology of the area means that the many needles, spines and towering columns that rise dramatically from the valley floor have been contorted into incredible unusual and bizarre shapes; iii) where the cliffs are so steep that plants have been unable to grow, the exposed rocks are an array of different stunning colours and shades, amber, apricot, burnt orate, cora, rust, mahogany etc. These factors make this landscape unique. The panorama route is an absolute must do for any visitor to South Africa. And the best thing is, from these magnificent view points, it's a quick hour's drive to the Kruger Park, which hosts the greatest wildlife spectacle on the planet.

What can one say about the beauty of this part of the escarpment, but that one stand in awe.
What needs serious attention is the actual condition of the facilities at the various stopping points. It is as if it is from another era. Very neglected.

The Blyde River Canyon is spectacular and well worth a visit. The entrance fee at Bourke's Luck Potholes is expensive and the facilities are in a shocking state. I was shocked and disappointed that a site that charges as much for entry as Bourke's Luck could not even fit latches on the bathroom doors to ensure that they close properly. It is dirty and an embaressment to this beautiful region.
God's Window is worth a visit -particularly at sunset.

Main sites we visited were Lisbon and Berlin Falls, the Pinnacle, God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, The Three Rondawels, and Abel Erasmus Pass. All EXCELLENT! The only disappointment was that it was a little hazy, so the far distant views from the very top of god's Window were not that clear. Also, from up there, you are not looking at game country - you're looking down at plantations.
Our favorites were the Pinnacle, Potholes, and especially the two views of Blyde River Canyon at the Rondawels.
