If you enjoy photography, I recommend you start at the north end in the morning and work you way south so that the views are not in the shadows.

Driving the panorama route is a great way to spend a long weekend. There are so many beautiful places to stop. It has earned its nickname of the largest green canyon in the world and there are also plenty of b&bs or hostels along the way.

Traveling as a couple we get to see many wonderful sights and experience some far traveled destinations. Our trip to the Panorama route entailed stops in Graskop and the surrounding areas. The one screamingly obvious thing is the complete lack of maintenance by the provincial and municipal authorities.
Traveling on the roads in and around the Panorama route one is constantly on the lookout for potholes in the road which sadly, distracts one from the most beautiful of landscapes that one can ever encounter. Graskop itself is, sadly in a state of disrepair, of note, and one can only wonder in disgust at the mindset behind this degradation as this is the heartland of the tourist routes which surely must instill some pride in showcasing this as the premium routes through this most wonderful part of South Africa.
This must surely be the reason for the empty and abandoned shops in Graskop which in its heyday was a bustling pot of gold for those who were fortunate to have had businesses there. I certainly wish that the powers that be take heed of this sorry state of affairs and begin to revitalize this beautiful and wonderful gem by better management of the resources and bring this town back from the abyss.

The Panorama & its surrounding is awesome.Infrastructure surrounding this site is nil. Admission is R5.00 per car! Costs more to employ the attendant collecting this meagre amount.Perhaps raise the fee & utilise for upgrade of the parking & wash facilities. When we were there no running water in the washrooms. Not advisable for wheelchair bound persons as the terrain is very rocky.

From wonderful, natural waterfalls, an authentically kept original mining village (pilgrim's rest) , unique sights (gods window - great crafts for sale there too ;) and natural formations (pinnacle and bourke's luck potholes) to the third biggest canyon (blyde river canyon) in the world. Very impressive and love the route with all the little stops.
