Panorama Chalets

(NB- this info is concerning the campsite. We saw pics of the chalets, and weren't impressed so we decided to camp instead)

The landscape is what it's all about in the Mpumalanga highveld, and boy is this an amazing spot.

Not only is Graskop 15 mins drive from God's Window, and 30 mins from Bourkes Luck potholes, but I'd rate the view into the Blyde River Canyon as the best in the area. It is truly breathtaking.

The camp site itself does not boast great views, but it is shady, with flat ground and good amenities. You are only a 1 minute walk from an amazing view. The site had a lovely family atmosphere when we were there (and we stayed for New Years Eve, probably a good gauge!) and everyone was respectful and quiet.

I've recommended this spot to all my friends. It's a beautiful, cheap way to enjoy the scenery.

BUT - find out when the rainy season is! We were rained out, grateful for the lacklustre but dry community lounge.

Room Tip: Ask about campsite 20 or 21 if you're after a view. They both have a small view of the canyon...

Drove to Graskop on a whim and booked one night at Panorama Chalets. The lady that checked us in was not particularly friendly, but she wasn't rude either.
We had a small unit that wasn't perfectly clean and the furniture could be replaced. No problems with the bed, had a good night's sleep. There were no electricity outlet in the bedroom, but there were in the kitchen and living room area.
We did not cook at the chalet, we had our meals in restaurants, however, I did notice that the cutlery and crockery were mismatched and different sizes. No a bad stay, but not very good. There is sooooo much potential, but it will take some maintenance, attention to detail, proper housekeeping, and of course monetary resources.

We only stayed one night and chose this because the picture of the swimming pool view is amazing. It is freezing cold however but worth going to see. The accommodation is basic and it took ages to go through the massive inventory of what was there to be ticked off in case you would get charged for something missing from the list. A woman on holidays does not want to have to check if there are 6 soup spoons etc.! If you don't itend spending a lot of time indoors and just need a bed for the night it is fine but there are no special features of this place apart from the pool.

Room Tip: The ones with the views on the cliff edge are the ones to go for I would say

I was sold a weekend in a 3 star chalet with space for 2 adults and 2 little children. At a price which would lead one to believe that it is a well-appointed 3 star establishment. I could have spent the same money and stayed in a nice-ish hotel, but wanted self-catering accomodation.

What we got was a tiny little cottage with grubby old furniture and it only gets cleaned after you leave or once per week!

We spent 2 nights in this hotel in Graskop. The hotel is located outside of the city center (small city) but only 5 min driving to the restaurant.
The comfort is ok but not exceptionnal. The view is realy amazing. We had a nice small house in the border of the cliff.
The swimming pool is funny with stones in the middle. Funny for the kids.
We had a 3 rooms house. Beds were correct. As I said, comfort is ok. Not a 4 stars but for the price, I think it's a good choice.

We had an excellent camp-site, though try and avoid being next to the aviary which has a lot of cooing doves. Good ablutions, kitchen and laundry; not the most modern but all reasonably clean and working well. Shady and terraced, so nice and flat for tents.

I can not comment on the chalets, but most seem to have the SPECTACULAR views over to the lowveld - you don't need to go to God's window after that, and you can swim with the view!

Didn't try the cafe, but it seemed pretty basic.

No Wi-Fi, which should be standard these days.
