This is the worst place I have ever been in my life! I don't know where the other good reviews coming from and I am very disappointed because I based my decision to book this place on them. Trip Advisor should investigate because they sound fake. We feel cheated and ripped off by the owner of this horror house.
This property is not opulent or luxurious and it belongs in a horror movie and not a fairytale. There was no electricity or heating. There were dogs inside the hotel and cleaning products lying around. There is no service staff or cleaning staff. There isn't even a place to get a water or a coke, which luckily we took some with. The carpets were old, dirty and smelly, the furniture and ornaments dusty, the parket floor broken and loose, creating potential risk to the guests. There was dog poo outside, and dogs in the hotel and dining area while the guests (only the 2 of us) have dinner. there were unfixed leaks on the ceiling. The whole place was untidy in general and could not be considered luxurious by anyone.
Our room was dirty, smelly, damp, dark, cold and uncomfortable. It was cramped and could hardly open the door. The ceiling was unfinished and made of badly put together plywood. The airconditioning only made noise and did not heat or cool the room. The mattress was very uncomfortable, the bed too short for the average person. The bathroom area not cleaned properly, the bath drain was blocked and the water was warm and not hot and no pressure.
The artwork I know there are many tastes, but it is too harsh and scary for the average romantic weekend away, and it is not inviting or relaxing. Same in the rooms than in the lobby.
I had a slight cold but became very ill during the night, because of the cold and damp conditions of the room, which had no heating. We had no electricity through the night so there was no point in providing electric blankets. The duvet was too small for the bed and too thin for the cold nights.
There is not one single thing we can say about Flycatcher Castle. Notthing.
The only good thing was leaving the place.

In a perfect location for some of Nature's most spectacular efforts nearby, Manie has built a dream castle and filled it with a bewildering assortment of his statues and artwork. Each room of the castle is staggering and the bedrooms extrordinary - we stayed in the Ruby Room complete with 6m high turret bedroom, jungle and spa with a giant penis tap. The food was personally and perfectly prepared by Manie & Wes and as good as any five star hotel - the interlude for 20 mins opera in the private chapel after main course was inspired. Breakfast was brilliant (forget a pancake at Harrie's). Get up early to grab a few moments with Manie in his workshop if you can. We had unequalled hospitality and a superb stay with hundreds of photos to delight back in the UK. Don't miss this place when in RSA.

We recently booked the entire castle for a murder mystery weekend over halloween. The setting is beautiful in the Panorama route of South Africa's Mpumalanga province, with Kruger park, Bourke's Luck and God's Window all literally just around the corner(s).

The castle itself, as one may deduce, is not historic, although it is built from reclaimed materials which give it a wonderful aged feel, which is further complimented by art deco (in a good way). The castle is decked out beautifully, both inside (including sculptures and paintings from the owner/manager artist) and in the adjoining gardens. Each of the six rooms (4 doubles; 2 suites) has its own theme, including en-suite facilities and stand-alone baths. Particularly spectacular is the Ruby Suite, in "Arabic" style, complete with it's own plunge pool, arboretum and mirrored (!) toilet.

The food and service is excellent- a four course dinner (bring your own wine) and splendid breakfast. All the food is cooked fresh, and indeed in front our your eys in the open kitchen. It was excellent quality and special accommodations were made for members of the group with dietary restrictions.

The castle even has it's own chapel, complete with a 7 foot high Jesus which appears to have been modelled on Chuck Norris. An excellent place to stay, particularly for romantic getaways or groups of friends.

Room Tip: Ruby suite was fantastic!

We stopped here for one night on our way to Kruger - ideally placed between Kruger and the Blyde River Canyon (both a must do in S.Africa). Beautiful rooms, gorgeous food and undoubtedly the best hospitality I have experienced in South Africa. The place itself is amazing and looks every bit as fabulous as the web site. Highly recommended.
