I guess we were expecting a lot since this is rated second best near Etosha. However, the management's lack of attention to details makes us not want to go back.
The rooms and construction of the lodge were quite nice - kind of a colonial style of architecture - not quite what you expect near the bush but nice nevertheless. The outdoor shower in the bedrooms, however, were completely impractical as they looked out onto other chalets. There was a space for a privacy curtain but no curtain. Also, the windows in the bathrooms were frosted half way, which meant that if you were taller than 5'2" then forget about any sort of privacy during an evening shower. The windows overlooked the walkway to all the rooms and were completely see-through to all guests.
The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, however they lacked in basic amenities. There were 6 bottles of lotion but no shampoo and conditioner and 1 bar of soap to share between 2 sinks, 2 showers and a bathtub which meant we had to keep moving the soap around as we needed it. We did receive another bar of soap upon request but is this really something we should ask for when we are staying at a supposedly "luxury" lodge? The pillows were also not comfortable - and there were only 4 pillows for 4 people. The lodge only put 1 extra bed in the room even though we were a family of 4 - they just put 3 pillows on the king bed. There was plenty of room for a 4th bed but I guess they thought it was not necessary.
The quality of the food was very mediocre. We informed the chef that we were vegetarian and they still made NO effort to cater for us. For our main course for dinner both nights we only got the sides. This was disappointing.
Breakfast was also a disappointment with almost no variety and both days the papaya on the spread was still raw.
The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because of the friendliness of SOME of the wait staff. We have stayed at Kempinski's Mokuti Lodge, Mushara Bush Camp and Eagle Tented Lodge before and never have we been so disappointed.
Be aware that this lodge is also 40 km from Etosha (we were aware of this so this did not affect my review).
