Onguma camp was absolutely lovely. Situated by a watering hole there were ample opportunities to observe game from the comfort of your tent. Onguma is very near Etosha so it is easy to do a drive into the National Park, and the rangers found us Lion and a herd of 35 elephant which was stunning.
We found the food quite nice here but the dining situation was slightly too formal. Early mornings were cold but we were greeted with a good breakfast and a cheerful and roaring fire.
The tents were really nice with lovely bathrooms and comfortable beds and nice plump pillows and fine sheets. The tents were well thought out with lots of international plugs for charging phones, cameras and laptops simulataneously, which was a great relief, and lots of reading lights and hot water bottles waiting under the covers. We were extremely comfortable at Onguma Tented Camp.
We had a quick look at Treetops one day, but felt we made the right choice for our family at Tented camp. The staff are eager to please and we had a wonderful stay. Fabulous !

Room Tip: They are all nice but ask for a room near the main building if you don't like to wait around. Be...

Designer camp on the Onguma reserve next to Etosha. On the positive side, the tents are great and you see wildlife both at the private water hole and while driving to Etosha. However we were not impressed by the food, which tries to be pretentious but lacks quality. Also note that this one out of several Onguma franchises, which means that you will not get the personal touch of a smaller camp nor the intense interaction with other guests at an owner-run camp. Reasons to stay here: be close to Etosha and wildlife.

Onguma tented camp is located on a private piece of property that is outside but directly adjacent to Etosha National Park. The nearest entrance is a fifteen minute drive to the Namutoni Gate and the commute to the park is an excellent time to spot game. We were welcomed upon our arrival by the managers and introduced to the entire staff. Our service during our stay was absolutely superb. All staff members were friendly, professional, polite and extremely accommodation to our particular needs.

The tents are situated around a private watering hole that hosts a myriad of different species throughout the day and night. We were lucky enough to spot a variety of antelopes, two hyenas, wart hogs and guinea fowl. We only just missed two giraffes that stopped by midday. The main lodge and dining area are open to the air and there are a variety of spots to sit, relax and admire the wild life. The lodge offers free coffee, tea and juice all day and there is afternoon tea provided. After 6:00pm, complimentary sherry and port are served around the campfire. Very decadent! The main lodge also has a small but diverse and lovely selection of gifts to purchase, which was novel amongst the lodges we stayed in on our trip.

Our tent was wonderful - large, clean and equipped with many luxurious amenities, such as robes, a fully stocked wine fridge, an indoor and amazing outdoor shower, and a large bathtub. The tents are not air conditioned, which is not a problem during winter, and fans are provided. We did not have any problems with room temperature during our stay. In the evenings, while you are attending dinner, the staff turn down the bed, place hot water bottles in the sheets and lower the mosquito netting. Prior to sunrise and after sunset, however, you will require an escort to the main lodge from your tent as a precaution against undesired wildlife encounters - there are lions and hyenas about.

The food here is excellent and we enjoyed our dinners very much. We were frequently served Namibian game meat, which was prepared to our liking, and the three to four courses per meal were elegant, delicious and appropriately portioned. There is a nice selection of South African wines as well. Breakfast is served as both a cold continental buffet with hot a la carte options available as well. You may request packed meals if you are up very early or on the road for lunch.

We did partake in a nighttime game drive, which was very fun. These occur on the private property and last about two hours. Temperatures can become very chilly but blankets are provided on the truck. The driver was knowledgeable and happy to stop at any time for us to take pictures. We also opted for a sundowners game drive on a different day, which again happens outside the park but is no less impressive. We very much enjoyed watching the sun set over the savannah and meeting other guests for a chat.

Overall we found our stay at the Onguma tented camp heavenly. It was quiet, private and supremely relaxing. We enjoyed all the amenities, the evening campfires, the afternoon coffee and cake breaks, the dinners, the drives very much and would clearly return here again without question.

We had a great time at Tented Camp - we had initially requested the Fort but it was unavailable due to renovation. Tented Camp turned out to be what we wanted - it affords privacy, overlooks an active watering hole, and luxurious clean accommodations. The tent has an outdoor (private) shower and a luxurious indoor bathtub (and another shower), and if you leave the curtains open at night, you might sit up and spot animals outside at the lit watering hole.

If you need to reach back to civilization, the lodge offers free fast wireless, and it reaches to some of the tents. The food was delicious, and we appreciated the Saturday evening barbecue provided at a separate location.

Plenty of wildlife on the Onguma grounds, or you can join one of the game drives (6 hours long!) to Etosha, bright and early while the light is still good (bring warm clothes though).

We appreciated that the staff went extra lengths to accommodate the fact that it was our anniversary.

Also we came in from Tsumeb by chopper and were apparently the first users of the lodge's airstrip. Lodge personnel came and picked us up and returned us to the airstrip free of charge, and even spent a bit of time introducing us to the local wildlife on the way. Great getaway!

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 are within Wi-fi reach, and just as private as the others.

We loved Onguma Tented Camp from the first view to our last minute there. Sadly we only got to spend two nights here--I could have easily stayed a week just relaxing around the property.

The accommodation is top notch, the staff was wonderful (especially Hans who took such good care of us), all of our meals and snacks were perfect, the activity at the waterhole was great, and the small swimming pool with a view over the waterhole just made the whole experience the best of our two+ weeks in Namibia.

Our room was huge, having two closets and sinks is always a great idea. The bed was firm and comfortable. Having an outdoor shower was a fun touch. There is a small fridge in the room, fully stocked. The towels are big thick ones. Really it's luxury at every turn, and who ever designed the rooms has really thought of everything.

Highly recommended.

Our group of 8 stayed at the tented camp on a recent visit to Southern Africa. The staff were friendly and the camp was well presented. It was however very hot - and there was no airconditioning. The staff really went out of their way to make sure that we had everything that we needed - and the meals were consistently good - the service at times though was on the slow side. Our guide Erice was outstanding and went to endless trouble to make sure that we saw the best that Etosha had to offer. The tents were very well set out and the outdoor shower was a bit of fun. Without aircon - we needed to cool off in a cold shower a few times a day. The water hole although small had game every evening for us to watch. Thank you to all the staff for a good stay.

The first good thing to say is that we were greated, treated, driven, guided and fed by Namibians from the area, a very nice touch and the opportunity to find out more about the people who live in this beautiful, and alas quite corrupt, country. The tented camp is not a bargain, though it is an all included - meaning drinks also. Very hot for afternoon naps, it cools off at night and the management goes out of it's way to make your stay pleasant. Less plush than the main lodge, but plenty of animals to see on the water hole just in front of your tent and a more intinamte and less snobish atmosphere that on the 10 star lodges, where the rooms are huge and luxurious, though the idea is to spend time outdoors. A pleasant stay, 2 nights enough.

Room Tip: the closest to the water hole, the best, so tents 3 and 4
