High end bush feeling! Small unit wit only seven tents which are scattered over the area. Lots of privacy. Super stylish interior, deck with view on the waterhole which is frequented. You can hear the lions roaring at night since you are in the middle of the bush. The chef is the best we met in Namibia. Food was excellent. As well the game drives which can take place as well in the Onguma game reserve. Take the night drive as well. Just enjoy every second. We will be back in December!

The Tented Camp was the first part of our big Namibia adventure - what a start! Greeted warmly with towels, tea and cake by Julia and the team on arrival after the drive up from Windhoek, we loved the open fronted lounge and restaurant, and were very impressed by the tents themselves, which are half-canvas, half-solid. External and internal showers were piping hot from the geyser and just what was needed to wake-up to on a cold winter's morning - having the bath available was an extra bonus, and we really appreciated the hot-water bottles both in the beds at night and on the back of the open Toyotas on the early morning game drive with our outstanding guide, Previous.
Like many of the Lodges, dinners were of a set menu of very good standard (amazing soups), but they could clearly cater to food choices as required. Breakfast was a great fresh buffet with hot eggs and bacon on request, and coffee and sundowners on the drives were all welcome.
The tents surround a good waterhole, which for us, in the middle of the dry season, saw a procession of visitors all hours of the day.
The tours are very good - the initial one around the Onguma reserve was a little bit barren, but this was more than made up for by a half-day and then a full day tour into the park where we were surrounded by apparenly all of Africa's antelopes (it felt like that anyway). The Onguma reserve is adjacent to the park's eastern gate, but does require a 15-20 minute gravel road drive in to get to the accommodation. There were no nets when we there, so i wonder if it gets a bit buggy on warmer days? We just dealt with a lot of moths! We really enjoyed just hanging out in the camp for an afternoon and chilling out by the side of the (cold) plunge pool - watching the fauna - an excellent and memorable location!

Caveat: my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I visited this place in Easter 2009 not 2010 but couldn't seem to add older review. Having recently decided to join up to TripAdvisor and share some posts, I felt it wouldn't be write for me not to give this place a mention, simply because it was such a perfect a memorable stay.

That being said, let's start with the price. It was expensive (i actually can't remember how much other than when booking it was a subject of some argument), however, I am so pleased to have i lost that particular argument as we don't regret a single penny, and absolutely felt it was terrific value.

Put to one side the most unbelievably luxurious rooms, with almost 360 safari views from your bed (with drinking hole a stone's throw away), very stylish overall finish, beautiful bathroom (and amazing outdoor shower!!), let me deal with what we didn't necessarily expect:

- staff: got it just right - no pressure at all to be on safari, very good at just putting you at ease if you want to laze around soaking up the luxury of you room or indeed while reading your book by the pool
- 4am male lion's roar. Both my wife and I suddenly jumped up bolt upright in bed as we took in the most impressive deep roar you can ever imagine - spine tingling, especially as you lay there in your tent with what can feel like pretty minimal protection
- first class bloody marys. honestly, we spent a fortune at some other places, and the attention to detail this area was pretty disappointing. Onguma had pretty much best bloody mary i imagine ever having (obviously surroundings help). G&T also pretty solid!
- the food. OMG the food. Our chef was amazing. Being candid, the food in Namibia generally was a bit of a disappointment, not so at this place. Absolutely exceptional and very accommodating (my wife is vegetarian, which really is a a bit of a trial in Namibia). Even the little things like the baked bread etc were just out of this world.

So there we have it. My first post is pretty unambiguous. this place was amazing. Not sure we'd do anything too differently, except may be one less safari trip (the early starts, bumping along in the jeep while amazing, do leave one yearning to get back to the pampered luxury).

Given date (2 years ago), i won't post separately my other experiences in Namibia, however worth saying it was mixed and this place was miles ahead of the others. Notable exception was a small B&B in Swakopmund called "alternative space" - which was also pretty amazing. On the other of the price spectrum but also within top 10 places i've ever stayed so far.

We went to Namibia on honeymoon and stayed in a number of places across the country. Onguma Tented Camp was one of our favourites. The camp is situated just outside the eastern entrance to Etosha National Park and has its own private game reserve. The tents are the height of luxury - definitely my idea of camping! The staff were attentive, polite, welcoming without being over the top. Our guide was great fun and very knowledgeable and the little touches were particularly well thought out - hot water bottles in your bed, candles lit above the bed when we returned from dinner and hot water bottles in addition to the blankets on the night drives. The food was wonderful, albeit some of the menus amusing as things got slightly lost in translation. We were also treated to a champagne breakfast overlooking the waterhole on our last morning there as a honeymoon treat. The wildlife in the game reserve was exciting to watch as the different animals grazed at the waterhole throughout the day whilst we lazed by the pool watching them. Although we didn't see any lions at this camp, we definitely heard them at night - an amazing experience. This is definitely a place to stay whilst in Namibia. We also stayed at another camp run by the same company - Visions of Africa which was equally as enjoyable.

We just came back from a gorgeous wedding at Onguma - which was divine. After the wedding, we stayed one last night at the tented camp. It was as if, when the wedding finished, the staff decided the service was over too - despite us paying £400 for the priviledge! Making transport arrangements had to be done twice each time because invariably it was misinterpreted. And we were told we had to drive ourselves to see the bride and groom the day after the wedding because the lodge had no driver available... We were told lunch was at 1pm then we waited 20 mins for it to arrive (and very average it was too) We were told there was no internet at the Fort, when in fact there is. If a hotel (any hotel, anywhere in the world but particularly in Africa) is going to charge this sort of rate per night, then it had better make sure that it's service is up to the same standard. Here we had slightly irritated responses when we asked for anything - and I'm talking about the white 'managers' not the black hotel staff. If the standard of managers is rubbish, then the staff don't have a hope of being well trained. There are some amazing things about this place but frankly, the memory of them has been erased by the bad. Don't stay here.

The lodge and the tents look very nice and luxurious, but we would not reccomend a stay here. Our tent was full of insects and there is no musquito-net. The fan did not work well and was not replaced when we asked. The food is average and the drive from the entrance of the camp to the lodge takes a about half an hour over a very bumpy road.
