We ended our Etosha experience at this camp.We stayed in a bush chalet which was not ready when we arrived and we managed to stop one of the staff who came to make up the room from putting a clean sheet over a very stained mattress cover!!!!!

Our room was big with a kettle and small wardrobe which was in good condition our drinking cups although different in design were not damaged.

We had various types of electric sockets to use.

The outside private gate did not lock or indeed close.

I called for the manager to look at the room but she was not on site, she did finally appear after I stressed the need to speak to her!!!!!!!I got the drift of this is a government controlled camp and who are you to speak badly of us ---I am a paying guest, that is who--

The board walk was bad and quite dangerous and the pool was having work done to give it some sort of surround. We ate dinner which was good and they have a good wine menu.Breakfast was included and not at all memorable. The waterhole was a good setting.

We had a game drive the next morning leaving at 5.30 am and we were luck to be the only passengers ,we had a good drive .

I would stay outside of this gate if I came again as there are a number within a few minutes drive .I did this at the other entrance for three nights before coming through and staying at the government owned camps.

Namutoni was an old fort that is now part of the NWR camp in the east of Etosha. We visited for the day from Okaukuejo camp in the West. Staff were friendly but I felt sad at the way things have gone down there. Staff seem to be trying but proper management and direction is sorely lacking. It still has so much potential but needs a serious dollop of love and enthusiasm.

The place offers several art stores and some small places to buy food as well as getting a nice breakfast. Climing the little corner tower, of the complex that is structured a bit like a small castle, allows some higher views on the surrounding areas. Provides some additional perspective to the dimenstions and size of the landscape.

We have actually never stayed here but have always stopped here for lunch, or afternoon tea on our way out of the park. The Fort is attractive and has interesting curio and jewelry shops, restaurant and bar all facing the courtyard. Staff is indifferent, officious and abominably rude at the entry/exit gate to this section of the park. One of our friends also had their credit card skimmed in one of the shops here in 2011, losing $1,000's, so be cautious! Despite all that, I would like to stay at this camp one day - if only for the animals and the region!

Imagine. An old whitewashed German fort from 1900 in the centre of Etosha. How can you possibly do this wrong? One of the most beautiful locations in Namibia. They did! Unprofissional, chaotic, 20 different styles of plates, even more styles of cuttlery, not managed. Food is ok, but setting is more or less fawlty towers. Pity.
