“Excellent choice and great modern architecture”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

The Lady owner is on the site and her manager, are doing their work brilliantly, they go around looking at details, something rare those days in hotels and restaurants (even at more pricy resorts). The staff is friendly and will give you that big african-smile added with something more in Namibia and ZAR, it is natural. The food is good, great quality of products and the Chef is quite talented. There is no wifi access in the rooms. Our guide and driver for our visits to the Etosha National Park was very professional and he really tried to find the places where the animals are. Driving alone will be a mistake, than normal tourists never know where and when to find the animals.

Location:
The hotel is located a 30 minutes drive from the Etosha entrance, this is unfortunately a bit far so you lose time when making game drives. However the location is nice. They have some animals like Ostrich, Kudus and Springbok in their gardens so you can watch them in the late afternoon when they come to drink (the water hole is located just in front of the pool).

Hotel in general:
Very nice and modern décor, very tastefully decorated, in bright colours and with nice furniture. Nice pool area, pool large, relatively limited number of sunbeds.

Rooms:
The rooms are not bungalows but rooms like in a regular hotel. They are relatively small. Nice décor. No refrigerator and no telephone in the rooms. The cabinet is relatively small but OK. The rooms are very clean. The bathrooms is good with a large shower. There is a small terrace overlooking the gardens. Unfortunately some of the rooms are located close to the hotel entrance road – however there is not much traffic so it is OK.

Food:
Excellent food! They only have one menu and for the main course there is a choice out of 2 options – this might be a downside, but at least the food was really excellent so it was OK for me not to have a choice.

Service:
Very friendly and attentive staff. The manager and the owner are always around so whenever there is a need they are at disposal and sort out everything – you really feel be taken good care of!

Activities:
Game drives to Etosha are offered. In the rain season you do not see as many animals as expected, still I saw most of them (lions, giraffes, cheetahs, rhinos, elephants etc.). This game drive is nice as the guide knows better where the animals are – I recommend to book this drive instead of self drive!

Summary:
Overall for me a very nice place, not the most luxurious game lodge I have seen (I would rate it as excellent 4-star), but I think it is a great value for the rate they ask (compared to other lodges in the area this is really a relatively cheap option!). I would most probably return, mainly due to the great service and the excellent food – both better than in most of the luxury lodges!

My husband and I do a lot of "lodge hopping" in Namibia. We have found this lodge a wonderful experience. It is an experience very different to the average lodge. The breakfast is great and in the evening you have fine dining. The chef is enjoyable and presents the 5 course meal with a tongue in the cheek. This lodge is different with a difference. Every moment spent there is worth the expectation.

I spent 2 nights here recently. The room was spacious and clean and the food was superb with a lovely setting by the swimming pool with lovely lights everywhere for dinner.

A few niggles:

They have very noisy peacocks that are not appreciated when trying to sleep.

Also Andre the manager needs to understand that the client takes precedence over his friendship with the guide, as we are the ones paying the bills. I did not appreciate him telling tales.

There seemed to be a problem with the wine also as I was served a glass of wine from a wine box that had obviously been around for quite awhile as it tasted awful. I was told if I wanted another glass I would have to but a bottle. I had a beer.

The building is lovely but it is too far from Etosha and it does not seem to fit in with the surroundings. Nevertheless the grounds and gardens were well kept and the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

What an amazing experience to stay at Emanya Lodge near the Eastern Gate of Etosha National Park. The staff seemed to anticipate our every need and nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful facilities, beautiful surroundings and excellent food. The owner is there to chat to guests and make them feel welcome. After living in Namibia for several years and quite often experiencing a distinct lack of customer service the Emanya was a refreshing change. I can't say enough to recommend this Lodge :-)

Emanya is a beautiful lodge just 20km from Etosha National Park (Namutoni gate) - it is well worth the drive to/from the park! It is very serene, private, exquisitely designed & is perfect for couples or families with older children. The staff are friendly & helpful. The owner lives on premises & accompanies diners for the evening sit-down dinners. Each evening's dinner was a delicious 5-course meal presented by the chef himself consisting of a pre-starter, starter, refresher, main course & dessert. The staff provided us with convenient, take-away breakfast packs so we could be at Etosha for the morning game drive at sunrise. The salt water swimming pool was refreshing. We availed of the laundry service which was very efficient & inexpensive. There was a very inviting foot spas, but unfortunately we didn't have time to enjoy it. We were greeted each morning by the peacocks, kudu, camel and other birds that frequented the lodge. We would love to stay here again!!
