“Highlight of our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

We stayed here during our trip around Namibia. It was one of the last places to stay and this place was by far the best accommodation. We stayed in a waterhole suite, very well appointed, fine amenities. The main building consists of restaurant, bar, lounge and the most amazing viewing platform/terrace overlooking the stunning waterhole. Lovely pool as well through we did not try it. We only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed much longer. The staff were the most professional we have met on our travels, the restaurant staff very well trained and this was the only lodge that didnt have a buffet and served a very special three course menu (with choice of main), exquisite food and truly five star service. If you are considering staying near Etosha, this place is a must. We took the time to take a look at their other property as well, called the Fort, well this is the epitomy of five star in a remote location, magical.

This was our first experience of camping in Namibia and what a great one! There are just a few campsites so plenty of privacy. The lodge is just a few minutes away but to walk there (especially at night) gives you the impression you are in the middle of the wilderness surrounded by animals. The night ride is worth doing as well as enjoying a cold drink in the comfort of the stylish lounge watching the animals coming to the water hole.

The Lodge consists of a number of round African village huts around the main building, housing the restaurant and bar. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
The restaurant offers nice diners and breakfasts in a stylish setting: a wide room under a straw roof and heated by the central fire place.
Most tourists will want to request lunch packs to spend the day in Etosha; these can easily be ordered and are large.
The swimming pool is very nice (see picture) but remember that July = Winter...

On the edge of the Etosha National Park this lodge is an excellent stop-over before going into the park. Beautifully designed on the edge of a waterhole which the restaurant and the bar overlooking it. Our room in an individual luxury "hut" was large and clean although a bit lacking in space for putting your clothes. Since we were only there for one night we didn't bother unpacking completely.
The restaurant was excellent with international cuisine. Impeccable and very friendly service.
About the only negative point was the distance off the main road (30 minutes drive each way on a below averagely maintained track).

Dear Mike B, Thank you for taking the time to write this review.
The good news is that the main acces roads are all in tip top shape again after extensive rebuilding and maintenance. This is done annually before and after the rainy season.
The distance to the main Etosha park entrance is in fact 7 km and should take about 7 minutes (on the new roads) if you do not stop to watch game on the way.
We look forward to welcoming you back!

My girlfriend and I stayed for 1 night in Onguma bush camp in september. It is a true paradise. Very friendly staff, nice accomodation and a beautifull view from the restaurant and bar. We did a night safari and saw hyena, caracal, bush-baby etc. Situated close to the south gate of Etosha. Breakfast and dinner both tasted very nice. One of the best lodges we stayed during our 2 weeks in Namibia. The only thing we regret is the fact we didn`t stay longer.

My wife and I stayed here for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon. Onguma Bush camp is well run and clean. The staff made extra effort to make our honeymoon special by giving us a secluded dining table on the dinning room balcony and giving us a courtesy small bottle of sparkling wine.

Our room was large, clean and comfortable. The dinning room looked out onto a waterhole that had the odd visitor and there was also a nice swimming pool.

The food was good with tender fillet of oryx, kudu and beef for the 3 evening meals. My wife is a vegetarian and didn't have such a great culinary experience. As in most of Namibia the concept of 'vegetarian' isn't well understood and for the rather large price of the set evening meals we would have expected something more. There was no vegetarian option on the menu, however they did try and a vegetable wrap, vegetable kebab and vegetable pasta was the result.

Onguma is expensive but that seems par for the course in Namibia with the gate to Etosha being about 500m away from Onguma Bush Camp i would recommend it as a comfortable place to stay to explore the national park when not staying in Etosha itself.

We stayed here for just one night after visiting Etosha park. We found reception really friendly and they welcomed us with cold juice and cool towels which was very much appreciated. Our room was fabulous! It had twin beds which were hugely comfortably, great quiet aircon, a huge bathroom with a powerful shower and actually had a balcony level with two more beds (so technically the room could sleep four, but the beds up there weren't as comfortable and also the ladder to get up and down was a bit dangerous so I wouldn't recommend it for younger children). It was very luxurious in general. The main lodge area which housed the restaurant and bar area was lovely and had a view over a waterhole. There were lovely comfy chairs in the bar area and I would have loved to have sat in for much longer.
The restaurant service was the only point of our stay as the staff weren't very friendly. Also it was a set menu only, no a la carte. There was no choice of starter or dessert, and only two choices of main. This meant some people in our group didn't eat some courses but still had to pay the full amount. This could do with changing. It was nice food though.
I would definately return here as it was the best place we stayed on our trip. Highly recommended.
