This was a great bed and breakfast! My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of staying here. Valerie and John made us feel very welcome. By the end of our three days, I truly felt that I was staying with friends or family, and not at a business.

They helped us out with good recommendations of places around town. I was searching for a place to ride horses, for good beef jerky, and for dinner. I can pass on their recommendations with rave reviews: Rainbow Ranch was a great outfit for going out on a trail ride, Mac's Meats had good jerky, and Harbor View Grille and Crosswinds were good places for dinner.

Before making the reservations, Valerie was very responsive with email communication. This was greatly appreciated as I was still trying to plan the vacation and iron out details.

The food was AMAZING. Valerie's breakfasts were absolutely delicious. She was careful in making sure that she made what we wanted (she takes into account appetite, tastes, and allergies). All the food was from scratch. The fruit was from the local farmer's market, the eggs from her chickens in the back yard, the bread was homemade - with home grown yeast no less!

One of the nights Valeria and John lit a fire in the fire pit out back for us, and we all hung out for a couple hours. I live just outside DC, and don't often see as many stars as that. It was beautiful. I could even make out the Milky Way!

Their chickens out back were great entertainment! She raises cute and friendly chickens that lay delicious eggs. I've never petted a chicken before this trip - it was a neat experience, as was collecting the eggs. And she has two ducks (which Valerie said will be nice once they start laying eggs, for people who are allergic to chicken eggs).

The room was incredibly comfortable. We stayed in the 1920's room. It had a nice king size bed, a bathroom with a wonderful jacuzzi, pretty decor, a sitting area, and cookies waiting for us when we arrived.

Amanda's Bequest is a wonderful bed and breakfast, and helped make our trip to western Michigan great. I would definitely consider repeating this vacation!

We just completed a fantastic 3-night stay at this wonderful inn. Our hosts did everything and more to make sure we were comfortable and content. Their upkeep and care of the house, wonderful cooking and fantastic company made for an enjoyable visit. Of course, we really enjoyed being around the chickens and duck in the back area each night, providing a unique type of "entertainment" Needless to say, having fresh eggs each morning made our meals special. After we left, coming home, Carol and I remarked to each other that it was like leaving friends we had visited. We were made to feel that comfortable. They plan on adding a room soon, which I am sure will be equally as fine as ours was. We wish them the very best.

My fiancee and I just spent my birthday at Amanda's Bequest. I have been to a couple other bed and breakfasts in the past, but this was by far my best experience yet. The innkeepers are very accomodating and personable making you feel very comfortable from your arrival to your departure. We enjoyed a wonderful welcome - a great bonfire conversation - and an amazing farm cooked (everything from scratch) breakfast. The home was very tastefully decorated and spotless, the area was very charming and close to the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan. The room was large, had all the comforts of home, was very clean and comfortable. There were lots of interesting things from the past to admire throughout the Inn. The bathroom was huge and featured a very nice whirlpool bath. If you are looking for a place to unwind, regroup and be pampered - Amanda's Bequest is your place. I have been in the hospitality business for 26 years and my only recommendation to this wonderful couple at the bed in breakfast is - DON'T CHANGE A THING!

My husband and I were privileged to be among the first guests to stay in Muskegon County's newest B&B. The place has just one room open so far but a couple more are in the works.

Amanda's Bequest sounds like an unusual name for a B&B but there's a really interesting story behind it. (You'll have to visit their website to find out but I can tell you that the house is not located in its original neighborhood.)

We stayed in a 1920s-themed suite and had the best of both worlds. The decor was "the cat's pajamas" yet we had 21st century conveniences like Internet access and cable TV. (The Wi-Fi worked well, by the way.) The queen-sized bed was quite comfy -- soft on top, yet firm underneath. The jacuzzi tub was clean and soothing and we both enjoyed relaxing in it . . . something one probably wouldn't have experienced in the 1920s.

I've stayed in several B&Bs; here in the States as well as in the UK, but the breakfast at Amanda's Bequest has got to be among the most hearty I've eaten! From the homemade sweet bread to the biscuits with sausage gravy, everything (including butter, jam, and eggs) is homemade and tasty. My husband cleaned his plate but I couldn't quite finish all mine, sad to say.

Among the things we enjoyed the most: an old-fashioned parlor game, the welcome tray of goodies found in our room upon arrival, the reception (complete with Michigan wine), but mostly -- the hospitality!

Promise is probably a good word to describe this B&B. It's brand new so, like the bedsheets that were still a little stiff, refinement will come with practice. But Amanda's Bequest promises to be a wonderful getaway experience for those who appreciate a little history, small town charm, and all the comforts of home.
