Try to visit this metropark during the week or off season. It gets extremely busy during the weekends and in the summer. One of the biggest problems is the uniqueness of the park was due to the variety of wildlife, yet management feels a deer cull is needed. What they don't understand is deer will continue to enter the park from surrounding areas and the problem can't be fixed by culling. Less deer, less enjoyment for visitors especially from the suburbs. The nature center and farm center are well run. The beach is popular in the summer. It is a large park, and Kent Lake is quite large for a lake in this area. The natural expansiveness outweighs the policies of the park that are less attractive, as does the circular bike/hike trail that circles the park with over 8 miles of pavement. Winter cross country skiing is excellent, but when they groom the trails, they usually over groom, as managers do not understand how to accomplish this like up north areas do.
