Great place to visit with the kids. I think of it as a free outdoor children's museum. The sculpture are almost all items that you can interact with or touch/climb on, and there is a real since of fun and humor to the place. Additionally, there is an area with a stage for concerts (also free) and some play equipment, a firepit, and a pond with fishing poles if you should want to try to catch something. We love it.

We were leaving Marquette, and had just passed the Ojibwa Casino, and THERE IT WAS! There is a Lakenenland sign over the entrance, and we drove right in. There is a stage with a shelter/roof on it, and an outhouse with a crescent moon on the door. We took the opportunity to walk our dogs around the sculpture display, but there was a car driving through, so it would be a good attraction for a handicapped or elderly person. Many, many sculptures here, interestingly inspired by (and made from) recycled metal objects. Many with upper peninsula "character" themes. Lumberjacks, hockey players, wild animals, commentary on leg hold traps, etc. Many people visited while we were there on July 25, 2012.

New sculptures are added to this attraction every year so it's worth your time to check it out whenever traveling to Marquette or the Keeweenaw. It is simple to drive through in about 20 minutes but to truly enjoy the sculptures, get out of the car and walk the groomed trails. The metal sculptures range from whimsical insects to ethereal woodland creatures to politically satirical statements. My boyfriend took many pictures of Tom Lakenien, the sculptor's, take on big business's relationship to the working man. Beleaguered midwestern Union members shouldn't miss that one. Many of the works are fashioned from old car parts, machinery etc. and can be appreciated for their both their artistic merit and creative use of materials. The creator and owner has also built a picnic shelter and fishing pond. You are welcome to just hang around and enjoy both. This is not a calculated "tourist attraction" but one man's effort to share his art and his land with travelers and locals. Its the "real U.P." at its finest. There is NO charge to see Lakenland but we always leave at least a fiver so this incredible artist can continue to amaze us with his art and sense of community.

This is probably only 10 minutes of an outing but really fun. Even my jaded teenaged sons thought it was cool.

This place is amazing, there are alot of very unique one of a kind statue/monuments here, most have some sort of connection to politics and are very accurate in my opinion, but they have something for everyone. It is a very easy and relaxing walk through the exibits, you are walking on wood chips on the trail,( for the most part )which make for a soft smooth hike around the park. When we go, there are either no other people there, or very few others. and you can not beat the price, although you should leave a donation at the end if you enjoyed it. MAKE SURE TO BRING YOUR CAMERA.
