“Still good after all these years”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

Hadn't been to this place in a long time. Visited my hometown and stopped in for some grub. Food and drinks were just as good as I remember. Luckily my dad has the recipe for the cheese spread that this place makes. If you tried it, you'd want it too =)

“Don't get too comfortable in your seats”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

My husband and I stopped by the Portside the other night for drinks & dinner. It was kind of crowded, so we were pretty happy to get 2 barstools. I grabbed them while my husband ran to our car (parked directly across the street from the Portside) to drop off some shopping bags he was carrying.

I sat down, the bartender asked what I wanted, I said we're going to have drinks first, then look at a menu. About a minute later, she came back, and told me to move down one barstool. I said "My husband is sitting there, I can't move." She then proceeded to tell me that there were people sitting outside eating, and it had started raining, and she needed the stools for those people. I thought I hadn't quite heard her - I repeated "My husband and I are sitting here."

She said "You can't save barstools for people."

I said "I'm not saving it - he's literally right outside. We came in because we saw two barstools."

She said "The people next to you are almost done, you can wait for those stools. I need these stools because the people outside need a place to sit."

I just gaped at her. Apparently there are two classes of people at the Portside, and we were of the class that can be kicked out of our seats. I left, and we won't be coming back anytime soon.

“Plenty of Good Food”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Some folks we met recommended Portside to get a bite to eat. Well the food is excellent and the service very attentive. The portions are large, my wife had their special sandwich and it was enought for two. I had the Cobb Salad and it was enought for two. Both were very very good. I had a pint of the local brew and it was also very tasty. I highly recommend this establishment.

“Breadsticks... *drools”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

One of my favorite places to go on lunch hours (now that Michigan is smoke-free in restaurants)!

And I admit, sometimes I have just eaten the breadsticksis for my lunch. But everything else I've had there as well has been excellent.

I bring my dad here a bit who has a thing for all things nautical, and the decorations always tickle him.

The seat yourself aspect still always throws me off a bit though. And service could be a little bit better.

“Don't miss this place, homemade ingredients, Michigan flavor”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Soups are awesome, fish, ham and cheese, club sandwich. Consider splitting entrees. Definitely sit out on the outside deck if you get the chance. Take advantage of good weather in the UP whenever possible!
