We've stayed in this hotel every year for four years, it was our favorite. This year things were different. The breakfast is now across the street at the Comfort Suites hotel, which the Ramada management just purchased. Getting three kids dressed for the day and across the street for breakfast was a hassle and it was crowded with two different hotels' guests dining there!

While still very clean (it amazes me--not a spot of mildew on the shower, the grout, anywhere!) our maid service did not come by until 4 or 5pm...which was about the time we'd return from our day of activities. Our room also smelled musty in the evening, but not during the day (odd).

Despite the great location (between the Star and Arnold ferry docks), we won't be returning due to these changes.

Booking the Hotel:

We contacted the hotel directly for the best rate after comparing rates and travel reviews from this website! We feel the the good reviews were given by travelers who had waterfront rooms and so we made sure to book one! We made our reservations about 60 days prior to our vacation and got the rate of $59 for Thursday and $79 for Friday night.

The Room:

Our check-in went smoothly. We did note that the desk clerk was resolving a double-billing issue when we came in and so we will watch our credit card statement carefully and make sure we keep our receipt! We were "up-graded" to room 308, which is a nice room. Since we were traveling with two young children we liked that they had two seperate bedroom areas. We did not stay here, however, when we saw the view was of the parking lot. My husband ran back to get a waterfront room and we were given room # 207 without any hassle. This is a corner, waterfront room with a nice size balcony. On the balcany there are two plastic chairs and a small table to set a drink on.
Since we brought a cooler with snacks and drinks we were glad to use the refrigerator in the room and there was also a microwave. Inside the room there is a table and two chairs which is convenient for making lunch and eating. The room and hotel overall could use some updating and freshening up, but I must say our room was reasonably clean.

The theme of the room was nautical, with rope wrapped around the lights and a nautical border. The bathroom was small, with only a toilet and shower/tub. The tile in the bathroom looked new. The heat lamp was useful and the room itself provided plenty of room to streach out. I would suggest that the hotel add more storage since only 3 small drawers are available if you like to unpack your clothes.
Our room was next to the laundry area (2 washers and 2 dryers, I guess you must already have your own detergent, etc.) , we didn't do any laundry and neither did our neighbors so it was quiet.
There is basic cable in the room. Our children enjoyed watching the Disney channel and the weather channel also came in handy.
We loved the waterfront room, it was so restful to fall asleep to the sound of the waves coming in. We enjoyed the view very, very much! To me there is a big difference between looking out a doorwall and seeing Paradise and looking out a hotel window and seeing a parking lot full of cars.

Food and Fun:

Breakfast is included in the price of your room, but the breakfast room at the Ramada stays vacant. Guests are sent across the street to the third floor of the Comfort Suites to their free breakfast buffet. On the buffet are scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bagels and toast, cereal, donuts, an assortment of juices, milk and coffee. If you look carefully you will also notice a do-it-yourself waffle station in the corner. The hotel provides styrofoam cups of waffle batter and you can make your own fresh waffles. I would recommend this option! The breakfast room itself seems new and clean, with 20-foot ceilings and a view of Lake Michigan. Attached to the breakfast room is a game room with a pool table, air hockey, and arcade games like Golden Tee 2003.

Don't run away from the Comfort Suites too quickly! Included in the price of your Ramada room is fun at the Comfort Suites "Pirates Adventure" Waterpark. My whole family enjoyed this! It is in an enclosed temperature-controlled building so it will be warm and you will not be sunburned! (Also a good Plan B in the event of bad weather!) They have a large heated pool, a jacuzzi that can accomodate 40 persons and the waterpark, which includes slides, tunnels, and a giant pirate head that fills up with water and periodically dumps all that water (maybe 20 gallons?) over whoever is under it! There is a quiet shallow end for the little tykes and plenty of adventure for the bigger kids. They also do a good job keeping the towels stocked. Bathrooms are on-site, bring your watch if you want to know the time because there is no clock to tell you.

We did swim in the Ramada pool. It does not have a slide. It only goes to the depth of five feet. Someone left a ball there so now it belongs to the Ramada and some of the kids had fun playing with it. From the jacuzzi you can see the beautiful lake and beach. It is peaceful to look at it while you soak in bubbles. There is also a second jacuzzi on the second level which is lit up at night with blue lights. It is not as private as it looks since someone's bedroom is only a few feet away. It is also covered (but outside). When we were there temps dipped down to 41-degrees at night so bring something to keep warm in as you run to your room!!

Overall: We did have a nice stay. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was hot and the beach was fun. It is true that the hotel could use some updating, but we focused on making sandcastles on the beach, playing in the pool and seeing the area. We feel that we received a good value.

We have stayed at hotels three times the price in Mackinaw City, but the Ramada Limited (723 South Huron Avenue/I-75, Mackinaw City) is the best. We have stayed there for about the last 8 years. The continental breakfast has the basics.

This is different from the Ramada Inn Conference Center on 450 S. Nicolet. We have stayed there, but much prefer the Ramada Limited.

Lets see where to start!!! My family and I Love this hotel, and location. We now have our "own" room that we reserve every year for a week. Its a GORGEOUS view. Every morning you hear the rolling waves, through your open slider door, from the 2 boats heading to the Island. The Sun is B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!!!! The beach is very clean, and has many lay-back chairs you can choose from. There is a 5 ft indoor pool, with jacuzzi, and another jacuzzi on the 2nd floor level outdoors, which is VERY romantic at night as its lit up! There are so many pluses to this Hotel i have no idea what else to say, besides the breakfast is very filling also!!!
Please take a special trip to Mackinaw City this year, and make reservations Here..You WONT regret it!!!

Enjoy!!!!!!
