Ramada Mackinaw City Waterfront
Ranked #23 of 40 Hotels in Mackinaw City
Reviewed August 30, 2011

Our family of 4 (2 daughters 11 & 13) stayed here for 2 nights in August, 2011. We had booked "lakeview" rooms but were offered an upgrade to "lakefront" for only $10 a night. The lakeview rooms are on the side of the hotel and look over the parking lot and to the lake. The lakefront rooms face the beach and the water and the view is great. You can't see the bridge, but seeing the lake from your balcony and watching the ferry boats come and go is nice. Also, the beach is sandy and shallow for a L-O-N-G ways out, so nice for the kids to play in (note some other hotels farther South did appear to have more of a "marshy" beach). The pool and hottub at the hotel looked okay, but we spent our swim time on the beach. You do get free access to the waterpark at the hotel across the street, which is nice but pretty small. Good for a couple hours. The hottub across the street is huge, so plenty of room for parents to relax there while kids play.
The Ramada itself is in a nice location and you can easily walk to the ferry docks in a couple minutes and to downtown in 10 minutes and the Ramada is priced cheaper than most of the surrounding hotels for lakeview or lakefront. However, the hotel itself is just not taken care of properly. The common areas were dirty, with the entry mats full of sand, trash cans at doors always full, the stainless steel in the elevators all smeared, housing around lightbulb in our bathroom was missing and spider webs visible, etc. I noticed some trash blowing around the beach area and found the hotel's own dumpster located around the side of the hotel had the covers open! We saw what seems to be plenty of staff on-site but apparently there is nobody in charge ?!? I think if the hotel had a decent manager to direct the staff, the hotel would be much cleaner and not look so rundown. Lastly, the breakfast area is smaller than a standard hotel room! Seriously looks like a converted closet or something. Overall, the room had a great view, nice beach, poor cleaning and not much of a breakfast. I don't feel we were ripped off but do feel it could be a much nicer hotel with some management involvement. I'd probably pay the extra $ and stay down the road at one of the other hotels next time to see if they were maintained better.

Room Tip: get the lakefront upgrade if possible. view is worth it

We stayed here on a last minute 2 night trip with the kids. We were lured in by the location on the beach and the access to the waterpark across the street. The waterpark is pretty minimal although the pool there and at the hotel are just fine for the kids to play in. The two women at the front desk were always really friendly. The rooms and hotel are very tired. Although the beds were comfortable and I loved that there were microwaves and fridges in the rooms. The beach was OK. It's just a small section and several of the chairs were broken, but the kids just loved hanging out along the shore I would call it adequate.

We got to the hotel early and not only did they let us check in, but upgraded our room from lake view to lake front!!! They have the most AMAZING, GORGEOUS beach in the city!!! This was my 4th annual trip up north, and this hotel was my favorite. It was decorated so nicely, and the staff was VERY nice and helpful!!! The hotel was right next to two ferrys, and walking distance to most attractions. The pool and hot tub were amazing, the beds were comfy and had lots of pillows!!! I will stay there again on my next visit without hesitation!!!

Husband and I were "wandering" northern Michigan for our anniversary. Had no reservations. Our first choice did not have a room and called Ramada who was able to fullfil our request. Stayed in a lake front first floor jacuzzi king room. Room has microwave & fridge along with a table with chairs and a small deck with outside table and chairs. Breakfast was the typical continental fare. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. Matter of fact, on our third night wandering, we DID come back here, but could not get the same type of room. Gals at front desk refered us to another motel which could.

We always enjoy our stay at the Ramada Limited Waterfront. It is convenient for us as we generally use Arnold Transit as our ferry service to the Island. You also can not beat the price. We find the rooms comfortable, spacious and most importantly clean. We generally book a lakefront room w/balcony so we can enjoy the boats leaving the dock and the breeze from the lake.

The staff is also very friendly and professional. The only reason I gave a "Very good" rating vs. an Excellant is because I feel the breakfast area needs to be a tad bigger for the amount of guests. It is a very tight squeeze and hard to move around when there is a full house.

The Ramada Limited Waterfront is always are #1 option when visiting the city and the Island for day trips.

Room Tip: We find the best rooms are on the lake front.
