about a 3 1/2 for the price- It has a beach and lets leave it at that. The Breakfast was above average and the rooms were good-not great. The staff was above average and were very good. The room was overlooking the beach that was nice.

Room 219, very clean & surprisingly large for a family of four. Excellent location, only a short 5 min bike ride to center of town. Beautiful clean sandy beach on property with great lounge chairs. Indoor pool very clean and open until midnight, bonus for kids since we are out seeing town most of the day.

Rooms were basic but not great. Did have a nice view of the island, bridge and ferries. Nice beachfront and convenient to the Arnold Ferry Line, within walking distance. I just wasn't thrilled with the overall cleanliness of the rooms. Seems like they basically change sheets, nothing more. Breakfast was average but very crowded unless you wait until almost 10:00 which is when they close. We were on the fourth floor so it was kind of like a maze getting to and from our room until we figured it out. Would try another hotel next time.

From looking at the property, it appears that one section of the hotel is older and one is more modern. Of course we stayed in the older section, bottom floor. We joked that the room was kind of like being in a funeral home, it did not feel light and airy at all. Being that we were on the bottom floor, by the parking lot, we didn't keep the curtains open, so with a dark carpeting, and dark furniture, it felt cluttered, not cozy. There is a large floor to ceiling dresser which is just way too massive for the room. The TV was a nice, large LG flatscreen. Our family always does a customary bug check (thanks to the neurosis of my daughter), and we were pleased to see nothing lingering on the mattresses. But boy, when we pulled the mattress a slight bit away from the wall, there were huge dust bunnies and cobwebs under the bed, yuck. We stayed there 2 nights and after the sheets were changed the second day, I did see a dead, small bug on the sheets. I guess those things really are everywhere. The shower and bath were fine. Needing to charge items, we saw that the plugs in the room were not in convenient positions and wouldn't even hold the plug in. Minor gripe. Our last hotel had a nice charging station located on the nightstand between the 2 beds.

Free breakfast. It is food, and you pretty much get what you paid for. It runs from 7-10 and we got there early on both days and it wasn't a hassle to get food or get a seat. I was a little disappointed to see all the plastic and styrofoam that was used. Styrofoam plates, bowls and cups and plastic forks and knives. I suppose that is great for the staff, but what a waste and creates so much trash. The food is nothing special. Very basic, but it saves you money.

Never saw their private beach or pool. Takes about 20 minutes to walk downtown and there are a handful of restaurants. The ferry associated with the hotel is the farthest one away, and takes 20-25 mins to walk to. I think it was a little pricey for what you get, but the prices seem all the same there, so you are pretty much forced to pay it.

Room Tip: Ask for the newer building.

This property is one of many owned by the same company. We booked a 2 room suite and it worked out pretty well for us. Location is very good. Within walking distance of downtown and many of the ferry services to the island. Front desk was helpful with suggestions on where to eat, albeit to locations owned by this company. I did enjoy that they included passes to the water park which the kids loved. The property layout is somewhat odd but not unmanageable. Location is right on the water and has a private beach. Breakfast area is very large but fills up quickly and we often didn't have a seat. The flow is terrible too with most of the items near the front where a narrow hall funnels people in clogging up the works. There are way too many rooms for this breakfast set up to support when busy. It was the worst part of our stay and we just went out instead of fighting this each morning. Other than that I didn't ding them any points because I think all free breakfasts are lousy except for maybe Embassy Suites.

"My family and I (a party of six) stayed for three nights at the Clarion. Everything was very nice. Loved having the two-rooms attached and a bed for everyone (instead of a pull-out sofa). Enjoyed the seats on the balcony for reading in the evening, as well as beachfront property! The complimentary breakfast was plentiful and well-run. Very nice from the eggs to the waffles (much better than most hotels). We even utilized the computers in the lobby to view pictures of a recent Alaskan vacation. Never used the pool or hot tub, but it looked clean and nice. Would definitely stay there again!"

My husband and our two children spent 5 nights at the Clarion. As others have pointed out the hotel is a bit dated, but overall our stay was pleasant. We had a nice view of the beach (lake front room), and the hotel is walking distance to ferries, and shops/restaurants. This is one of the few hotels on the strip that has a private well -maintained beach. Also, there is only one hotel next to it. The room was just average. I think the staff could've done a better job in cleaning the bathrooms/room. Compared to other hotels that I have stayed at, some days it did not appear that anyone had straightened up, with the exception of making the beds and most days the bathroom was not cleaned.
Saving $$ on breakfast is a real plus when you're travelling with the family, so we appreciated the complimentary breakfast, it offers the usual, scrambled eggs, sausage (gravy for sausage that I have never seen served), a lot of white bread products and sugary donuts/waffles. Some fresh fruit was provided but did not seem to last. We picked up fruit and healthier snacks and kept them in the room fridge. The fridge was adequate and microwave was handy for quick warmups. The hotel also provides discounts to local restaurants and attractions, don't leave home w/o it. We took the kids mini-putting and could've saved a few bucks on the total cost.
The island is beautiful and so quaint. Beware of the bike rental fees, it is not cheap if you're renting bikes on the island. We took the carriage tour first and then rented bikes for a couple of hours to tour the island (8 miles long). We were pressed to drop them off again, as to not incur any additional charges.
If you like Fudge, there is plenty of it! There is a lot of history on the island, the tour is well worth it.
The maps still show the outdoor waterpark. There is no outdoor water park, it is now closed. There are a few indoor water parks in nearby hotels, only one that has the body slides for older kids/adults. The space was clean and not too busy.
Overall, we had a good experience, and I would recommend this hotel for future travellers.
