“Just an average motel......but a really good value!”
Reviewed September 2, 2010

We knew that we should not expect much if the room is under $55.00 a night. Well, the first night we had only patchy internet, and could not get on in the AM at all. So, we mentioned that when we checked in the second time and were given a room above the front desk. We had no problem getting onto the internet in that room. So being above or close to the front desk is best for those who, like us, can't live without the internet. The second room was also bigger with the vanity outside the bathroom, newer furnishings and a better view. Both rooms were basically clean, beds were comfortable and never heard any noise from neighboring rooms. Breakfast room is tiny, food was mediocre, so we ate somewhere else. Pool was too warm, hot tub was too hot. Overall, though, a decent place to stay for not a lot of money.

Not a bad hotel...would stay here again, but a few complaints.

-parking is horrible. Not enough spots for the number of rooms
-lots of spiders on the balcony
-have to walk outside to get to pool
-garbage on beach...was there the entire 3 day stay

Not bad for the price and location. Breakfast is very basic, and nothing fancy

This place was a dumb! For the amount of money that we paid, I would have thought that it would have been nice! Their was some brown stuff on the wall, the toilet ran all the time, the sink faucet and tube leaked. The sliding door to go on to the deck was broke, and the cable was out the day that we checked out. The wall paper on the wall was coming off and the ceiling had water stains on it. These are the kinds of things that I would expect to see if I paid $30 a night NOT $225.00 I will never suggest this hotel to anyone! The internet pictures are VERY wrong!!!!!

We stayed at the beachfront Super 8 Friday-Sunday, August 13-15, 2010 and we will never stay there again. We booked online and purchased a package deal that included two reduced-price ferry tickets for a trip to Mackinac Island however, upon checking in, the front desk clerk looked at us as though we were crazy when we asked about the ferry tickets. After a long car drive we figured to not worry about the tickets since we weren't charged for them and it's easy to find coupons for reduced price ferry tickets. Next, we entered our room and were hit with a wall of muggy/musty smell. "No big deal," we told ourselves "it's August and with 80F and 90% humidity if the air has been off for a few hours we can just turn it on and things will be fine." The smell did go away, but the room still lacked quite a bit.
The dark purple carpet was surely camouflaging years of dirt and the early 1980's flowery bedspread was only slightly more aesthetically appealing than the hideous dark blue and purple wallpaper border, all of which offset the beautiful (sarcasm) gold sconces. On a good note, though it was very outdated the linoleum tiled bathroom was clean! The showerhead was a bit gross due to hard water build up, but all in all I still felt fine showering in it (and I'm really picky).
A few more variables contributing to our decision to never stay there again are the parking situation and the ridiculous housekeeping. Parking was a nightmare. Most hotels we've stayed at that have on-site parking require you to fill out paperwork documenting your license plate number (to ensure only individuals staying at the hotel park in the lot) this super 8 bypassed that measure which resulted in being overparked. We ended up having to park in this shady lot behind the hotel and walk around it to our room (no big deal, but a good case for why the form requesting license plate information should be required...did i mention I asked if the subpar clerk wanted the information on the paper but she said no). Lastly, housekeeping was miserable! We left our room Saturday morning at 8:30am and returned at 4:30 pm only to find our room still unkempt. Housekeeping has never even stepped foot in the room yet! The room had been cleaned by 6:30pm when we returned from the beach.
On a more positive note, this hotel is in a great location. Within walking distance to the ferry, downtown, and right on the beach.
All in all, the room, noisy air conditioning, crappy housekeeping, poor customer service, and very uncomfortable mattress result in us deciding to never stay there again.

We got to our Best Western room right next door to this hotel one hour after making phone reservations only to find $100.00 had been added on to the tab for each of the two suites we booked, making one of the suites a shocking $375.00 per night! (not surprisingly, Best Western couldn't find the recording that they originally threatened to use against me) We scrambled to find a room (as I refused on principle to pay the added $200.00) and found to our delight that this Super 8 Beach front hotel RIGHT NEXT DOOR was clean, friendly, reasonably priced and has a great beach for the kids. It is virtually the SAME beach we were going to pay 3 times more for next door at the Best Western. Btw... the manger at the BW refused to adjust the price and billed my credit card. I've been sobbing and begging for days for a resolution. But Best Western has been absolutely inhuman about their response. I will be YEARS recovering from this. :( Stay at the Super 8!!!!

Breakfast was great and featured made to order waffles which can be eaten beach side at a nice little eating area. Every room had a huge jet tub. The rooms smelled good and darkened down nicely to keep our kids asleep later in the morning. There was a storm the night we stayed, but he had not idea until my husband opened the door to have us see it. The rooms are super sound proof.

The best aspect about this hotel was the location. Being directly on the beach to see the fireworks and being pet friendly were the positives. However, being on the 2nd floor with a dog, not the best scenario. The pool, hot tub, and sauna are indoor, but you have to walk outside to the building. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. Not too firm and no sagging. The breakfast had cereal, breads, fruit & waffles.

We were excited to book a beach front hotel for the weekend, however, when we arrived, our courtyard facing room was simply facing the parking lot. We walked to the room and the smell even before we got into the room was unbearable. Smelled like a mixture of old rotted, ethnic foods. Also, our room was supposed to be non-smoking, but the room just reaked of smoke. We looked around the (very small, old and outdated) room for the refrigerator and finally found it in the bathroom. The room just felt dirty, and smelled so bad, simply unacceptable. My husband went to the front desk to let them know and they couldn't have cared less! They didn't offer us a different room or even an apology. We decided not to stay and they told us that there were no refunds, since we didn't give 24 hour notice of cancellation. We left anyways and are disputing the charge on our credit card. What a terrible hotel, with unfriendly, unhelpful staff. We ended up staying at the Court Plaza Hotel which was great. NEVER STAY AT SUPER 8 BEACHFRONT. Disgusting.
