We had such high hopes for our mini-vacation. This hotel had a great location. That was about it. The staff was not all that pleasant. The room was musty & the back sliding door lock was broken. The beach was not all that. For $179 a night one would expect a pretty decent room. And the "water parks" passes that it came with? What a joke. One was a glorified splash pad that wasn't even open. One had a couple of bigger slides & a big pool, but seeing the algae that was growing everywhere in there, we decided against it. The 3rd one had a decent play area for the kids & a nice big pool & hot tub which was clean. We spent a few hours there & enjoyed it. Oh- & how could I forget what sounded like oxen stomping around in the room above us until 2 am for two of the nights?!?!
All in all, we found the whole area to be quite boring. If you like fudge & shopping for touristy tchotchke, then this place is for you. The best part of our trip was playing mini golf. Both places were nice little courses & not very crowded. The other was a restaurant right in town called The Pancake Chef. Excellent buffet & great service. Our daughter loved it so much we went there 3 times! But I can't tell you enough how rude we found the majority of people to be in Mackinaw City & even more so on the island itself. It's like they are bothered by tourists. Hey a-holes: if it wasn't for tourists your stupid little place wouldn't exist!
My recommendation: find somewhere else to vacation- you'll be glad you did!
