My wife and I have stayed with the Deans, every year since they opened, at least once and usually 2-3 times each year. We have never been better accomodated at any of the many B&B's we have stayed in, in many states, from the northeast to the southwest and from the northwest to the southeast. The breakfast is always gormet, and outstanding, with the hosts accomodating us for our tastes in food (no sausage for my wife), etc. The presentation of the breakfast is always delightful and inviting. The conversations are always intellectual, stimulating, and enjoyable, and the Deans have become great friends. The rooms are clean and full of little surprises, such as old books, photographs, etc., and are warm and comfortable.

Take time to enjoy the gardens and the beautiful front porch, and wicker chairs, and spend some time in relaxation and conversation with the Dean's and guests.

If you are lucky and can get a reservation for the Mackinaw bridge walk on Labor Day, make one (we do it every year). You will be thrilled with the walk , the Dean's will taxi you to the starting point, and you will be rewarded with a beautiful gormet buffet, at the end of the morning.

We have traveled all over Michaigan to many different B&b's.We find we like the Deer Head Inn the best. WE have traveled by ourselves or with a group of couples. Barry and Nancy are great innkeepers. They have a good knowledge of the area and can send you on a great adventure if you are looking for something different to do.
You can also feel very comfortable if you decide to stay back and enjoy a book in your room or their very comfortable common room.
The breakfast in awsome, no need to leave hungry!!!
I would recommend their B&B to any one.

After looking at the prices for the "budget" hotels in Mackinaw City, I stumbled upon the Deer Head and immediately booked a 2 night stay. I booked a 2 room suite thinking it would be nice to have the extra space, but we never really used the extra space as we fell into bed exhausted after sightseeing both days.
I thought the breakfast was great, but I had mentioned when booking that my boyfriend doesn't eat eggs and he wasn't offered any real alternatives for breakfast either morning.
Overall, I would definitely stay again.

We were staying elsewhere, but while walking around, we met the owners of the B&B. They were very friendly and invited us to tour their Inn. It really is a beautiful place and each room has a different theme. They are all quite large, too.

We weren't there for breakfast of course, but some of the people staying there were saying very complementary things about it. The Inn is very convenient to all downtown attractions and a very short distance to the ferry docks. You can't see the water from the inn, but it is an easy walk away. Several good restaurants are close by, also.

I doubt that anyone would be disappointed with a stay at Dear Head.
