Our family which includes 2 teenage girls decided to take a break from all the shopping and eating to visit this Icebreaker and was it worth the hour or so to tour. The guides in the various areas of the ship are very sharp as far as the info they deliver to you,and to think when this ship docked for the last time everything on board was left just that way right down to the cheese crackers in the kitchen. This is a very interesting attraction.Take a break from all the shops and visit .

Arrived in Mackinaw City on a rainy morning. Decided not to go to Mackinaw Island. The kids had see the fort in the city before a couple of times and weren't interested in doing it again. What to do? This is a very interesting place to visit. You get a chance to go through the ship bottom to top. We were there for more than an hour. You go get through in less time if you wanted. I would recommend putting it on the schedule if you can't think pf what to do or think you have done it all.

This was my favorite experience in Mackinaw City. The review indicating "it needs updating" gave me a chuckle - it's a museum!! The ship was decommissioned a few years ago when its replacement was put into service that could operate with fewer members of the Coast Guard. The docents are so friendly and willing to talk as long as you like. It was so intreresting to find out how this one ship kept the shipping lines open when there is thick ice on the lakes - I think it ran 10 mos of the year. Well worth the visit and right on the main drag in MC. We walked from the Best Western Dockside. My husband loved it so much he bought the DVD and watched it as soon as we got home!

This attraction severely needs updated! This proved to be very historical and could be very interesting/entertaining if there were real guides to take you through the ship telling stories and peppering in some humor. Instead, you pay 10 bucks a head to look at semi interesting rooms that have nothing posted that gives any info and watch badly edited videos that last too long. I can see a lot of potential here...but it won't impress you. PASS!!!!

This tour is a little different from other ship tours I've been on of older, historical ships, in that its a mostly modern Coast Guard ship, just decommissioned a few years ago, and still with all the equipment in place, mostly as if the last crew cleaned out their gear and left a ship-shape vessel for others to visit. Still does have the historical info on the ship's role during WWII, but everything is definitely modern. Was not a fully guided tour, but several docents stationed throughout the ship are friendly and knowledgeable. A great asset to the Mackinaw City waterfront. A nice break in that I don’t think there was any fudge available for purchase on board. Parking and exterior directions could use a little work. Definitely recommended.
