Court Plaza Inn & Suites
Ranked #20 of 40 Hotels in Mackinaw City
Reviewed July 4, 2012

My family of 18 had reserved several rooms at this hotel weeks in advance. The evening before our check-in, I received a call from the manager/owner stating that they lost electricity and he needed to cancel all our reservations. We then had to search online for last minute reservations, which cost the family almost 3 times our budgeted amount. When we arrived in Mackinaw City, we visited the Court Plaza Inn and Suites only to see a full parking lot. I spoke to the owner who told me that they finally got their power back late last night. I asked him, "so all of these cars are from people who booked a last minute reservation?" He responded, "no, I didn't have time to call everyone to tell them the power was restored." I guess he chose those individuals (by name?) he wanted to call back. I do not believe him. I think he was probably being racist to my Hispanic family, and decided to cancel our reservations to charge other people twice, maybe three times the amount for a last minute reservation. He was completely unprofessional.

Dirty hot tub, pool area unlocked, closet door broken, bathroom door sticks & will not close, not fancy or very clean, but nice maid service & reasonable price. Pay more for a clean beachfront room.

I was with a bus tour that reserved rooms for 48 seniors for 4 nights. There was no elevator, the doors open onto an outside walkway, and most rooms have no refrigerator or microwave, but did have a coffee pot. The room appeared to be clean, although I couldn't figure out whether the towels were ecru or just dingy white. The hotel is old and dated. We had trouble flushing our toilet until it finally wouldn't flush at all....it broke. We fixed it and found out it was Jury Rigged in the first place. Breakfast was served in a small room down by the office, or on a patio w/ tables if you prefered. Breakfast was very minimal...no fruit, a few muffins and bread or bagels to toast, cereal, and at the last few days there were gravy & eggs (no meat). There is an indoor pool, and a hot tub that I wouldn't get into. The hot tub looked yellow and had sand in the bottom. The clincher was when we had ONE packet for our coffee in our room w/ 2 people. My roommate wanted coffee in the evening and she uses lots of cream, so she went to the office to get a few packets. The manager (owner?) actually argued with her & said there is ONE in your room and he couldn't give her any more. Since she stayed and continued to express displeasure, he finally asked, "What would it take to satisfy you?" and she replied "4 packets for our coffee". The next morning at breakfast there was no artificial sweetner. When I asked about it, the attendent (very sweet) said she had to run to the office to "steal" some out of the coffee packets!! It's quite obvious this hotel is on a shoestring. The location is the only great thing about it. It is right on the main street and very convenient for walking to all the stores, restaurants, Mackinaw Crossing, piers, etc. There are nicer (and probably more expensive) hotels near the other end of the main street.

Great location in town, easy walk to movies, shepplers Ferry, town, and of course fudge shops!
Room was virtually spotless, towels fluffy and beds comfortable. We had our elderly mother 88 with us and the handicap room was perfect. We accidentally Left our room for dinner without pulling it shut tightly and when we returned found nothing disturbed, how refreshing was that! We don't recommend it but nice to know this is basically a safe area.

Room Tip: We stayed by the stairwell which was a bit noisy early afternoon but very quiet at night.

The room was clean and comfortable. The man at the desk was very helpful and gave us prices up front for the different rooms available and surprisingly the prices were very close to the prices on the hotel.com website. The room was only $60 and it is right on the main drag where all the shops and resturants are located. We will definitly stay here again.

We've stayed in this hotel a few times and it is always the best price in town. This is a tourist town and it's known to have pretty dingy hotel rooms. Not at this hotel...but don't expect immaculate 4-Seasons type of room. It's simple with fridge and tv...gets the job done. Front desk staff was extremely helpful and positive. Our overall experience at the Court Plaza Inn was great!

Room Tip: You have to request ground floor rooms when booking otherwise they may not have any available when y...

We were their with my wife and daughter for one night only, in October.
The room was perfectly clean and quite. Added value were the pool and the spa (even if dirty with sand).
The shortfall is for sure the breakfast, very poor (not even an apple, or a banana!)
The overall review is definitely positive!

Room Tip: stay on the back of the street, much quiter
