Parkside Inn - Bridgeside
Ranked #17 of 39 Hotels in Mackinaw City
Reviewed July 2, 2013

We have been staying at various hotels in Mackinaw city and St. Ignace for 16 years, and I have to say that Parkside Inn was the best in Mackinaw city! Clean, affordable, wonderful staff, the rooms very clean and roomy!(3dbl bed room)! Pool was clean and pleasant and game room fun too! The location was great! we walked everywhere in the city! The Park across the street was nice and relaxing! An A++++++! See you next year!

At 1 am.. two women went laughing and screaming down the sidewalk! And at 8 am... housekeeping came into the room with only a small knock! No "housekeeping call" we were not completely dressed!! Really??? We went stay there again!

When we planned our recent visit to the Mackinaw area we contacted the Parkside Inn because we had stayed there previously. Although our room during our last stay was not fancy, it was clean and quite adequate. This time, however, our room was dingy. The towels were threadbare, one actually had a hole in it. When we returned to our room after visiting Mackinaw Island, found that not only had our room not been made up, but our window had been left open - not a good idea when our room was facing the parking lot on the ground floor. Our refreshed towels were "damp". When we tried to discuss our dissatisfaction with the room and service, the only response was "why didn't you tell us sooner?" and "I'll let the owners know, I can't make any decisions about things like this." Our decision will be NEVER to stay here again.

We had previously stayed at this inn a few years back and had a "water" view. Well, conserving money this past weekend we booked a ground floor, parking lot view room. Big Mistake. Obviously they put their meager funds into the waterfront rooms. This room smelled like disinfectant, and not in a good way, the beds were miserable, the pillows were about 2 inches thick and solid as a rock, linens were old, the bath towels were at one time a dark green, but now faded to a olive drab, were threadbare and had holes in them. The couple that we were traveling with had the room next door to ours. We both closed the windows to our rooms when we left in the morning, and upon returning later that evening, the windows were both OPEN in both rooms (yes, on the ground floor), and our room had been serviced, but their room only had a few "clean" towels dropped off, one of which was still damp. Yuck. The beds in their room had not been touched. And we're paying for what???? As it was late in the evening we didn't go to the office - but we should have. Upon leaving the following morning we went in to the front desk (hmmm - which was unmanned and you had to ring a bell) and the same person who checked us in appeared from what appeared to be an apartment attached to the office. Since we had been here before we knew she was the owner/wife. After voicing our concerns and disappointment her response to us was "well, I can report it to them". What? Report it to who - you are the owner. She would not give any type of a refund or much of an apology. Needless to say - we will not stay here again and would not recommend this to anyone traveling to Mackinaw City. Spend the extra fifteen bucks and get a decent hotel room.

So the room was nice. Bed was comfy and had a wubby.....just look up the word. The older man at the front desk was more than pleasant. Location was excellent. The basics were in place for a decent hotel stay.
The downers? Pool/hot tub were closed with no notice. I wouldn't have booked here had I known. Needed more pillows. Horrendous breakfast. Coke machine broke. Rooms were locked out second day. Scary elevator.
Just a lot of little things sucked. Some preventable, some not. This place has potential though.

Spent one night at the Parkside Inn, in a modern room adjacent to the Mackinaw bridge ramp. The view was lovely however there was some traffic noise from vehicles driving on to the bridge ramp.
Room was comfortable, but not luxurious, bath towels had a sour odor. Included breakfast was barely adequate with the cheapest little doughnut pastries, cereals, and a boiled egg. These cheap breakfasts, with weak coffee, seem to be endemic at the included breakfasts with many hotels in the touristy areas.

Room Tip: Do not select room next to bridge, further away the better.

The room was clean and the front desk helpful with questions about the city and the island. Breakfast was not elaborate, but suitable. The pool is in a separate building, so you'll have to walk a very short distance from your room to the pool building, which is in the courtyard.

The hotel is just to the east of the bridge and a very short walk south of the waterfront. The waterfront is occupied by a park. It's a very pretty location, but not suitable for swimming. The water is shallow, but it's a stone beach, not sand.
