“Exactly what we hoped for - clean room, friendly staff, free breakfast”
Reviewed October 25, 2010

1-night midweek stay Oct 2010. Picked Baymont Inn based on other good reviews. Hoping for a clean basic hotel with a pool and free breakfast. Our stay was great.

Beds were firm. Not super-fancy, but they did the job. Room was very clean, mechanically everything appeared in good working order(did not use HVAC due to moderate temperatures).

Common areas and the overall hotel grounds were attractive and updated. There is a small but welcome lobby / sitting area with a couple comfortable chairs in addition to the dining area for the breakfast room. Many hotels in this star rating / price range seem to offer less of a lobby.

Pool area was nice, including hot tub. Room was very warm -- sometimes, cold pool water and/or air temp makes for unpleasant swimming for little kids. Not a problem here! Workout room inside pool area looked very basic but seemed to be locked before advertised pool hours were open. Included 1 True brand treadmill and 1 elliptical. Did not use equipment.

Free breakfast was good, as long as you are not expecting high-end gourmet food. Make-your-own waffle station worked well. Also pre-made french toast with instructions how to microwave (we didn't try these but seemed like a nice addition to the normal continental breakfast fare). Hard-boiled eggs, bananas, apples, danish/muffins (from Gordon Food Service; they were adequate), orange and apple juice, cereal, yogurt, toast, etc. Breakfast was open until 10am, which seemed longer than most hotel breakfast hours.

Staff was a highlight of the stay. Everyone was professional, friendly, helpful. Exactly the kind of people who you'd hope to be served by -- whether in a hotel, a restaurant, retail store, etc. Assistant mgr / desk clerk gentleman was very helpful during breakfast, aggressively keeping stations stocked with food supplies. Housekeepers were really friendly, asking us if we had left a jacket in the lobby. General manager gave us directions and advice on a thrift shop in St. Ignace. She also told us we could leave our vehicle here and pick it up the next day -- we were deciding whether to park it at the ferry company's lot while we stayed the following night on Mackinac Island. Overall, people just seemed to enjoy doing their jobs and it was great to see. The hotel had a 'Best of Baymont' award displayed on the wall, and it is easy to see why.

This was a very good stay at a budget hotel. The price we paid ($58+ tax) was lower than some of the traditionally higher-rep hotel brand names (e.g. Holiday Inn Express) and I'm confident we were in a nicer, more updated property.

High speed internet worked without a hitch.

We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights during Oct, 2010. We stayed there and drove to tehquomenon falls. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I am very picky about cleanliness. We only paid $70 a night since it was the off season. The faucett on the sink was broke and we had to play with it to get it to shut off and to get the water tempreture we wanted. It was really no big deal, just a little annoyance. We let the lady at the desk know about it when we checked out. Besides that, it was an ok stay.

This hotel is exceptionally clean. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help and answer questions, bring extra towels, treat us with cookies and I expect fluff pillows if asked. They go the extra mile to make us want to stay longer and come back every year.

It isn't bad if you want to walk locally to some restaurants and it isn't that far from one of the businesses that ferries tourists to and from Mackinac Island. Also, Baymont has continental breakfast. You can easily walk in the downtown area of Mackinaw City. Recommendation, if you are a AAA member, bring your membership card, because if you use the ferry through Shepler's Ferry, it isn't much, but it is three dollars off of the round-trip ticket.

We went to Mackinaw City to celebrate our anniversary with family. We chose the Baymont because of our stay there last year. The staff was so nice and friendly. Truly helpful with any questions. Dan even contributed to our joke on our friend who unfortunately sleep walks. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was tasty, and the staff was professional, but with a family touch.

They are located within walking distance of Mackinaw Crossing and all the shopping and fudge shops. And the Hopps Festival.

We had a great time and plan to stay there again next year!

The hotel was exceptionally warm, clean and inviting. Our room was very tidy as well. Like the extra towels that were provided in our room and the pool area. Seems like there is always a need for more than what is provided. The breakfast was very nice and offered a wide variety of foods as well. We will return next time we are in Machinaw City, Mi. Thank you so much!!
