We had postponed our trip to Mackinac Island b/c of early morning showers and a cloudy day and decided to take the Straits Tour as recommended by people on Trip Advisor. Apparently the cloudy day kept others away which is a shame b/c the five of us (two of us and a mom with two younger kids) had a terrific time touring out into the bay and under the Mackinaw Bridge. What a view! The clouds, choppy waters, and lively wind just added to the pleasure of the trip as Captain Chris told of the sights around us and the history of the Ugly Anne. The co-captain Greg, a resident of Mackinac Island, came back and sat with us as he told us more facts about the surrounding area, even giving us some tips for touring Mackinac Island the following day.
This trip was very professionally done but was so much more enjoyable than some of the more commercial offerings. We felt right at home from the moment we bought our tickets from Chris's mom and she told us the background of the business and information regarding the boat trip. I was very impressed when I learned the mom and two kids who took the tour at the same time had originally been scheduled for the evening tour the day before but had problems getting back from Mackinac Island on time and missed their tour. Captain Chris's mom graciously told her that they would honor the tickets from the missed trip on the following day - not a problem! What nice people! This is definite must-do for both families and couples.
