Owner description: Emmet County owns the historic McGulpin Point Lighthouse, which protected shipping on the Straits of Mackinac against storms, fog and rocks between 1869 and 1906. It was purchased by the county in 2008, which reopened McGulpin to the public with a gala celebration on May 30, 2009. The site is approximately 10 acres and is a half mile north of the Headlands. It includes 336 feet of shoreline on the Straits with a commanding view of the Mackinac Bridge. Trail to the Straits includes new interpretive signage coming in Summer 2015! Beautifully maintained grounds and interior. There is always something new at McGulpin Point!

This lighthouse is a few miles out of town and worth the drive. It was closed when we arrived, but we enjoyed taking a look a the grounds and admiring the lighthouse. It reminds me of my favorite lighthouse (Sand Island, WI). The shoreline down the road is also worth a quick stop, with a great view of the bridge.

It's as if the original lighthouse keeper walked out without his belongings. A must see in the Mackinaw area. Steep in history for the area.

Found this lighthouse by accident a few years ago; just after it reopened to the public. Have taken some amazing photos, enjoy the view from the top! The volunteers are very friendly. Definitely worth the drive to enjoy this hidden gem.

An actual working light house(not an official Coast Guard) that until recently was aprivate residence. The view from the light housing is spectacular and the volunteers are so friendly and informative. On top of all that it is FREE! Well worth an hour of your time.
