Owner description: Treasures from the past come to life at this 18th-century fort and fur trading village. Reconstructed based on historic maps and more than 50 years of archaeological excavations that continue today, Colonial Michilimackinac offers a one-of-a-kind experience from cannon and musket firings to hearth cooking and crafts. Located on the shore of the Straits of Mackinac, visitors of all ages can enjoy the unique perspective from the palisade walls.

There's a lot to learn here about the history of the US and MI. To me, the most interesting part was the movie about the sunken ships. I really had no idea. So many of the stories are so tragic but you get a great sense of life back then. Whatever you do, don't miss this part. It might not be interesting for the 6 and under crowd but otherwise lots of fun.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Colonial Michilimackinac. It was a weird feeling to actually step back in time and experience what it was like. I only wish we had taken our grandchildren on the trip because they would have LOVED the experience - maybe next year we will take them. When you walk through the buildings you expect to see British soldiers in their red military coats walking around. I can't say enough about visiting the fort. If you pass it up you will miss a VERY interesting lesson in history. Have fun - you will enjoy it!!
