My husband and I spent a couple hours at Fort Mackinaw and had a really nice time. Being at the end of the summer, it was not crowded at all which was nice. There were only a handful of dressed up employees (soldier, Native American, blacksmith, cook), but each portrayed their character well and had a lot to share. We walked around the entire fort, reading much of the information. We especially liked the underground exhibit which was thorough and interesting at the same time. Bathrooms further inside would be nice, but I understand why they don't have them. The gift shop was nice and large. We didn't have our kids with us, but great idea to have the playset for the younger ones to run off some steam! Would have liked to see the ongoing archaeology, but timing not right for us.
