Owner description: Treasures from the past come to life at this 18th-century fort and fur trading village. Reconstructed based on historic maps and more than 50 years of archaeological excavations that continue today, Colonial Michilimackinac offers a one-of-a-kind experience from cannon and musket firings to hearth cooking and crafts. My husband and I spent a couple hours at Fort Mackinaw and had a really nice time. Being at the end of the summer, it was not crowded at all which was nice. There were only a handful of dressed up employees (soldier, Native American, blacksmith, cook), but each portrayed their character well and had a lot to share. We walked around the entire fort, reading much of the information. We especially liked the underground exhibit which was thorough and interesting at the same time. Bathrooms further inside would be nice, but I understand why they don't have them. The gift shop was nice and large. We didn't have our kids with us, but great idea to have the playset for the younger ones to run off some steam! Would have liked to see the ongoing archaeology, but timing not right for us.

This was the first time my husband, I, or our children have been to the fort. We really enjoyed it! Our six year old was fascinated by all the buildings, artifacts, and workers dressed in clothing of the era. Our 2.5 year old also enjoyed going from building to building and the playground they had for when we was ready to leave the fort while his brother continued to explore. We look forward to going back again in a few years.

Just like the old times... Great history and reinactors also... Reminds people the way things were back then...

I was particularly impressed by the attention to detail of the reconstructed fort and by the fact that I could view some archaeologists at work on site and was interested in the process of archaeology to construction.
This is one of the attractions included in the area package deal.

Got to try this place, at the beginning we thought was going to be a 10 minutes visit with no much to do, we ended expending 2 full hours there. They have demonstrations every 30 minutes from all soldiers firing their weapons. Also the view of the bridge from this site is better. You need to check out the museum downstairs
