I got a great rate at this hotel. Room was clean and comfortable.
Room included a kitchenette so I could make my own coffee. Cable TV included the CBC out of Canada (great news programming). Staff was friendly.
However, an outdoor light kept the room too bright since it shined through the cheap shades. On the downside, a sneaky "6% fee" was tacked on "to pay for the hotel". I asked if this wasn't already captured in the room rate. "No, all the hotels add this on," I was told (not true). When I asked the manager, she said the full price should have been quoted--but still couldn't explain what the extra 6 percent surcharge was for. Moral to travel industry including Mackinac Island shuttles/ferries/hotels/restaurants: we are in a recession and you can no longer get away with such trickery on travellers. Eliminate such fees or add them to the room rate (this goes for :"resort fees" and other hidden charges). Tourists are in no mood for such gamesmanship.
