While this hotel may seem small compared to the Grand, it's a perfect place to stay for a couple nights if you want to be close to the action of the downtown area at an affordable rate. It's right beside many great restaurants and fudge shops (which smell delicious) and literally only feet from the Sheplers Ferry dock so it's easy to get your luggage from the dock to the hotel. The Sheplers ferry service people even took our bags up for us since we were so close. The Pontiac was super clean too which is much appreciated compared with the great price. It also had a fridge and microwave which were useful. Overall a great place to stay if looking for clean and comfortable. The only downside was there was no pool.

My wife and I looked at many different options before deciding on the Pontiac Lodge. We chose it because of its proximity to downtown. All the shops, bars and restaurants were within short walking distance. The room was very clean and appeared to be recently renovated. We stayed in room 23 which is a large corner room with a jacuzzi tub and king size bed. The room had a microwave and fridge. There was an ice machine and small vending area right outside our room. We also had two windows, one which looked out at Shepler's Ferry and the main street below and the other which also looked out at the street with a partial view of the harbor. We had to wait a few a minutes to check in and check out as the person had stepped out for a few minutes, but both employees were very cordial and offered to help us with our bags. We would definitely stay there again.

Affordable and clean. Great location right across the street from Shepler's Ferry. We stated in Room 24. The room had a mini fridge and microwave. Would definitely stay there again. There are many bars and restaurants within walking distance.

The Pontiac Lodge is definitely a viable option for affordable lodging on Mackinac island. Rooms are very expensive there, and if you don't need a pool or on site restaurant, and can navigate on flight of outdoor stairs, you should consider the Pontiac Lodge. Very clean comfortable rooms, great shower, good sleeping. Some rooms can sleep up to 4 and there is one suite. All types of food are available within a block walk. Lodge is located on a side street between Main Street and Market, right downtown. Oh- one room, 229, has no outside window but has a beautiful skylight for sun and stars!

There were three in our party so we were looking for a nice place in town with separate bedroom accommodations. We stayed in room 24 which was very neat and well kept. When we originally booked the room there was a trundle bed in the living room, however they recently renovated and replaced it with a pull out couch. The couch being brand new was in good condition but it was a sleeper sofa none the less. Having a microwave and refrigerator are handy. Wifi worked great and plenty of channels to choose from on both tvs.

Definitely recommend using Sheplers or Star Line as they are directly across the street and you can walk your own luggage over. It is also in a good location for dining and shopping. Not too far a walk from the attractions and just up from the boardwalk.

The only negative was that our room was directly across from Goodfellows which is open until 2 am and some rowdy guests could be heard in our room which disturbed our sleep.

If you are visiting to focus on seeing the island it is a good, affordable choice with no frills attached. Everything was efficient and satisfactory.

We stayed at the Pontiac Lodge this week for two days. Shepler's ferry dock is right across the street making it real easy to move between the two. The room we had (#22) looked out over the main street and was great. The beds were very comfortable and the room was large. We had a small refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom does include a shower (no tub) but since we both like the shower there was no problem. The TV was on the cable and had a lot of channels available. The internet (WiFi) was fantastic and better than I have found at any hotel I have stayed. This is a small boutique hotel so don't expect fancy front desks, bars or restaurants. The check in went well and the lady behind the desk was very friendly and showed us to our room demonstrating how to open the door. She waited until we looked at the room and said we were satisfied. There are many bars and restaurants on the main street (Huron) within a few blocks. The rooms are on the second floor above the retail stores below. I would recommend this to any of my friends.

The Lodge has gotten a facelift with the new owner group. The appliances and amenities are still there but we really miss not having that familiar face in the upstairs office to greet us and help us with any needs. The new staff was very friendly and helpful, especially during the blackout, the choice of colors and new furnishings were also very nice. We just missed having the person in the office. The gift shop below was also very polite about turning down their music when the base got a bit loud. Clean, Friendly, convenient location across from Sheplers dock, on the second floor which proved no problem for us, and rooms that can hold a whole family. We wish the new owners as much luck as the old owners had. Open year round for X-country skiers. Many great restaurants and downtown is right out your door.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing 'Goodfellows' are quieter. No bar people sitting on the porch. If they ge...
