Loved the whitefish and the friendly staff. This place is busy and the service is efficient. I'll return!

I went to the Village Inn years ago. I haven't been back to the Island since. I wanted to take my family to this restaurant because I remembered the delicious white fish & garlic mashed potatoes. The new plated presentation is pretty but not that tasty. The menu didn't say it was garlic mashed, I just took a chance it would be like my past experience there. Just a little would have added much needed flavor. My hubby had spicy chicken sandwich & it was a very generous portion of chicken. He liked it.

Thank you so much for your review. We are happy to hear that the spicy chicken was enjoyed. We are unhappy to hear that you didn't like our mashed potatoes that accompany our whitefish. We did get negative feedback about the garlic mashed potatoes that were served and we were asked to use regular mashed in their place. I will pass your recommendation on to our head chef for his review. Thank you for taking time to leave a review, if we don't hear about things like this we may never change the way we are serving things. Even though it is tough to do, we hope to make ALL of our guests happy. Please know that your recommendation has been passed over and we hope you return to us on your next visit.

We've visited the island several times, and always had dinner at The Village Inn. This year we noticed that the name had changed and it was now owned by The Grand Hotel. We went for the All You Can Eat Breakfast Buffet during Chicago to Mac race week. As breakfast buffets go it was fine. The atmosphere was that of a church basement potluck. All of the wooden tables and chairs that gave the Inn its homey atmosphere had been stored on the porch of a building across the street, and in their place were long banquet tables with paper tablecloths and plastic folding chairs. I asked the waitress if the change was just for breakfast. She said the tables would stay until the majority of the sailors left the following day. We did not return for dinner as we had planned to do. Who wants to pay fancy dinner prices to sit in cramped tables on flimsy chairs?

Thank you very much for your review. We are sorry to hear that you didn't like the way the restaurant was set up during your time here. I must mention this so all of our reviewers don't get the wrong idea. During the Port Huron and Chicago Yacht Races, we take all of our regular dining room tables and chairs out of the building and replace them with banquet tables and smaller chairs. We do use White Linen Tablecloths not paper. We do this to accommodate the thousands of sailors that are here for those 2 days. The sailors make reservations for groups of 12-25 and we cannot accommodate such large groups with our normal dining room set up. We have been thanked by many of these sailors for taking the time to set things up the way we do. It is a lot of work moving tables and chairs around and if it was not necessary we wouldn't do it. We do set up this way Monday and Tuesday only of each Yacht Race in July. We also only serve breakfast those 4 days of the year to give the sailors more options. Please come back and visit us any of the other 361 days of the year and we will have our normal set up. I hope this will help other readers as to why this review was only 3 stars.

Simply put, this has the best whitefish on the Island and $3.00 Oberons. We were seated quickly on a busy Friday night. The service staff was attentive and the manager made sure to thank us.

Thank you very much for your review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed our Whitefish. We take a lot of pride when making our Signature Planked Whitefish dish and it is always good to hear such positive feedback from our guests. The $3 Oberon pint special is All Day Every Day. We try to promote Michigan products as much as possible because we are proud to serve them. Again, thank you for taking time to leave a review and we hope you return on your next visit.

Embarked on Mackinaw Island, with wife, daughter, son, and two young grandsons in tow. Where to go off the beaten path for good, tasty grub? Answer: Village Inn. Extended family treated like royalty while we dined on blackened whitefish sandwiches (the inn favorite), chicken wraps, veggie specials, and craft beers. Service and attention to detail was spectacular. I think Emma was our waitperson. Great value at a great location. Thank you for a wonderful, memorable time! We will be back with more friends and family.
