“Our favorite place for dessert.”
Reviewed March 1, 2012

The food here is very good, but the desserts are the reason we come several times in one week. Cherry cobbler a la mode made with Michigan cherries, YUMMMM.

“The Best Cobb Salad in the World is on Mackinac Island In the Winter No Less”
Reviewed February 6, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Cottage Inn on Makinac Island for three days for a winter get a way. Just a few delightful streets over from our B&B was the Village Inn Restaurant. There is only one other restaurant open in the winter. Each has it's own particularly qualities that attract the Islanders as well as the fudgies. The Village Inn has recently been taken over by the Grand Hotel as its newest casual dining option. We ate there every night. The decor is beautiful, warm and relaxing. It's a blessing just to walk through the front door. We felt so welcome even though we were probably only 2 of a total of about a dozen visitors to the island that weekend. The wait staff male and female were so friendly and very attentive, not too much, just right. It was obvious to us that they loved working in the restaurant. They were very proud of the quality of the food and we were not disappointed. The wine is served in a beautiful big glass which was very elegant on a cold evening when youv'e been out in the snow for hours on the island. Their french onion soup is "to die for". Unbelievably the best onion soup I have had in a long long time in a restaurant. But the Cobb Salad was out of this world. Fresh crisp romaine, real bacon and cranberries, blue cheese with real grilled chicken breast slices on top and it was huge. It doesn't get much better than this. We were so enamoured by the restaurant that we went every night for dinner. Saturday evening we enjoyed live music by a fellow on his piano while we ate our dinner. The very cool thing about the Village Inn too is the islanders eat there too and they love it. They could hang out in their own houses but they choose to eat at the Village Inn restaurant and that makes it even more fun. (You can rent cross country skis and snows shoes from the restaurant too.)
The Village Inn is open all year round so anytime is the right time to dine there. We will definitely be back....."Somewhere In Time."

“New Year 2012”
Reviewed February 5, 2012

The atmosphere of The Village was nice looking but the staff was less then friendly. The bartenders appeared to be annoyed that people were visiting the establishment. There was no welcome and certainly no smiles. The wine was good but we chose not to stay for food because we felt unwelcome. Will possibly return and hope for a better experience.

We had a great time. made us feel at home from the start. Met some new friends, just a great experience. Cannot say enough about them to properly express our appreciation. Thanks you very much and we will be back.
