Attraction details
Owner description: This is Mackinac Island State Park, a landscape characterized by high limestone bluffs, beautiful vistas of sparkling water, vibrant forests, and mystical geological formations. With automobiles banned since 1898, here exists a quieter way of life away from interstate noise of cities. Over 80 percent of Mackinac Island is within Mackinac Island State Park—free of charge and open year round—where you’ll discover the true natural gems of Mackinac. Whether visiting this island parkland by foot, bike, horseback, or carriage, these many majestic geological wonders and unique historical monuments are visual treasures found only here—on the island sacred to the Ojibwa and Odawa Great Lakes Indian tribes. According to them, this is where life began. You’re invited to discover why.

“Biking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

My husband and I rode bikes around the entire island and enjoyed the state park and all of the scenery. We even stopped a few times to just enjoy the view.

“Excellent bicycle route around the island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

During the July 4 holidays we twice rode our bicycles the complete circuit around Mackinac Island. The portion if the roadway within the State Park was in very good condition with good signage, plenty of pull-offs and excellent vistas for photography. A restroom and snack bar/small store are located at the beginning of the British Landing Road near the site where the British troops made their infamous nighttime landing and began their fateful march to seize Fort Mackinac. For bikers and hikers, the Landing
is a good spot to pick up bottled water for the last four miles back to the harbor.

“Scenery and History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

If you like scenery and or History this is a great park. Nature at one of it's finest. Also along the paths there is always something to learn about on what happened on the island back in the 1800's.

“Bike & Hike the island!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

My wife and i have biked, hiked, and walked around the island. Walking the entire 8 mile perimeter took us two hours. Biking takes less than half that time (w/o stops). Any mode you choose... bicycle, horse, running, or walking... the island is a great place to explore! The perimeter is relatively flat, whereas the interior streets and trails are hilly. If you enjoy residential architecture, the free tour (Wednesday's @ 9:30 a.m.) of the governor's summer residence is worth a visit.
