I ordered a wedge salad and asked for ranch over the russian it came with... got the salad and it was literally two pieces of iceberg lettuce with two pieces of rubbery bacon standing next to the lettuce and a pile of red tomatoes, shaved red onion, and greek olives. Weird combo??? But I went to pour my ranch on and it was super thick and tasted like packaged ranch. Sure enough it was... such a high class hotel and restaurant? The salad was horrible . Then I had the strip steak... the steak tasted like it was cooked with no seasoning and had several different layers piled on that all tasted precooked and thrown on. Not to mention over cooked and cold. The baked potato tasted like it had been sitting in an oven 3 hours to long. The meal way very disappointing. The dessert was excellent though!! The Pecan ball dessert is worth going for. My cousin had the caesar salad and fish sandwich and she really enjoyed it. So, its hard to say what will be good or not. On top of it all we had a brand new waitress that kept forgetting and had to go ask tons of questions. Overall we laughed more about the food and how bad the service was than saying how good things were.

Nice atmosphere with a fireplace, outdoor seating when it's warm, lots of room, nice bar and sports TV. The food was pretty good but we found the prices to be too high for a return trip, at least for a meal. The bar is a hopin' place and they have some good drink deals. But $17.00 for a burger and fries is too much. Our lunch bill came to 69.00 plus tip for two of us! (included two drinks)

Following our Mackinac wedding our families headed to the Gate House for drinks. They had an awesome band playing fun disco music. Everyone was dancing and having the best night. It was like getting a live band for free on our wedding.

The Gate House is a nice place to relax outdoors for just a cold drink or a meal. You can sit and watch the kites flying in the field next to it and the carriages pass by from the Grand Hotel. Great casual dining.

I loved the French Outpost, so I was a little hesitant to eat here when I saw that it had been purchased by the Grand Hotel and renamed. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and friendly service. We were expecting higher prices, but the Gate House's prices are similar to other casual Island establishments.

Unfortunately, it was cold and rainy on the day we visited so we could not sit on their very nice patio. I will definitely go back again this summer to enjoy the great views or a little later in the evening when they have live music.
